Weekly Update July 8, 2022
2022-23 Food Service Changes
USDA Ending Free Meals Program
For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has offered waivers to child nutrition programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch at no charge. Unfortunately, these waivers expired on June 30, 2022.
Therefore, for the 2022-23 school year, child nutrition programs across the nation will return to normal, pre-pandemic operations. Families will be required to pay for meals purchased at our school cafeterias.
Families are again asked to complete and submit a 2022-23 Free/Reduced-Priced Meal Application (PDF) if they believe they may qualify. If approved, the completed application will cover the student for the entire 2022-23 school year, and no other steps will be necessary unless there is an income change during the school year.
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools Food Service Department is committed to assisting families and making this transition back to normal operations as easy as possible. Please feel free to contact Food Service Supervisor Megan Schweller if you have any questions.
New Online Payment System
This summer, GJPS is transitioning to a new online payment system. My Payments Plus will be replaced with Campus Payments. Since it will be integrated into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, there will be no additional password to remember.
Things to know:
- Campus Payments will be ready for lunch deposits starting August 1, 2022. Fees can be paid when they are finalized later in August.
- All lunch account balances will be transferred from the old system to the new.
- Checking accounts, credit cards, and debit cards will be accepted.
- Families will be able to deposit lunch money and pay school fees in a single transaction.
More information will be available later this month.
Goodbye Old Friend
Thanks for the Memories, Lincoln!
We are pleased with the steady progress of Phase Two of our Master Facilities Plan and look forward to beginning construction on the NEW Lincoln High School and athletic stadium.
To prepare the site for these projects, it was time to say goodbye to the old Lincoln Elementary
on Havens Corners Road. Demolition of the school began on Tuesday morning, July 5, 2022, and was finished by the afternoon.
If you have questions about the Lincoln Elementary demolition contact Lowendick Demolition at (614) 439-2582.
GJPS Journey to Learning
Genius Day Celebration
The GJPS Journey to Learning summer school ended with a Genius Day Celebration. Students from across the district gathered at Middle School West and Chapelfield Elementary to learn skills such as bracelet making, origami, cooking, sewing and more from their teachers. Students and staff also enjoyed meeting a couple of four-legged guests from the Columbus Division of Police.
