Cedar Grove Friday Flash
April 3, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you and your family well and that you are managing to get through these difficult times as best as possible. We would be remiss if we didn't share with you that the entire Cedar Grove staff misses you and your children very much. We have embarked on a new journey of online teaching and learning, and by now, your child's teacher has held at least one classroom meeting online to reconnect with students and provide information needed for the upcoming week. Hopefully, you and your child have also had an opportunity to explore the teacher's classroom site and view what has been posted so far.
Looking ahead to next week, you may have seen from our superintendent's email messages that a portion of the originally scheduled spring break will be replaced with online instruction on April 6 through April 8. During those three days, your child will have a math lesson on Monday and Wednesday, and a literacy lesson on Tuesday. All elementary instruction will take place in the mornings. In addition to these lessons, teachers will hold a weekly class meeting and teacher office hours and counselor check-ins will become available. Please note that no teaching and learning will take place for the remainder of our original spring break on April 9 through 13.
As we are all adjusting to online classroom platforms and use of technology, we are pleased to share that our central office is providing our families with any needed technical support, so please send an email using the following link if you need any technology assistance.
For other questions, you may continue to contact teachers and administrators through email or through the new "Ask A Question" button on the school homepage. Although we are not in the school building daily, we remain as committed as ever to being responsive to your needs and questions.
Parents/guardians should continue to stay up to date with online teaching and learning by clicking on our Continuity of Learning webpage.
We wish you and your family continued safety and good health, and know that we are available for you if you have any questions or concerns.
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German

Hello Cedar Grove Families,
I have been thinking about all of you and miss you very much! I've created a way that students and families can keep in touch with me or reach out. Please follow the link to my Distance Learning Counseling Site by clicking here. You will find county-wide information/links and information on how to contact me, should you need anything. I will be updating the site often with kid-friendly social and emotional resources. Parents will also find helpful information and resources to help navigate this difficult time with their families.
Stay safe,

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Our Media Specialist
Hello everyone! I hope this finds you well! Here is the April Media Monthly! Please bookmark and visit this page often. I will be updating it as media classes are established and scheduled! And, for our students who are logging into an MCPS Chromebook with their MCPS Google accounts, here is the slide show with the Morning News Blast embedded so they can see the morning news (and our special guest videos!)
From Mr. Jansson, Our PE Teacher
Hi Friends,
PE in April is going to look a little different then usual. We will be doing lessons from home. We will be finishing up marking period 3. The PE department is working hard to get that out to us and will show us what that will look like soon. Most importantly, I want you to take care of yourselves. Wash your hands, keep at least 6 feet away from others, and cover when you sneeze or cough. If you can get outside, do so as long as you keep away from others. Fresh air and the sun will make you feel better.
In April we celebrate National Parks week. If you have a chance, explore some national parks online. There are many cool web sites.
Starting Monday, I will be sending out a lesson for my kindergarten, first, and second grade friends. This will be week A. The following week (which will be week B), I will send out another lesson for my third, fourth, and fifth grade friends.
This is all new for us. There may be some obstacles, but please don't stress. Just try your best. We are in this together.
Take care and be healthy!
