* ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR *
PA Art Education Assoc. recognizes Digital Design teacher Amy Migliore
Ms. Migliore, well known as an innovative educator and in demand as a speaker at university conferences, has been an art teacher in QCSD for 19 years.
“This is both validating and humbling,” she said. “Validating because we work in a nonprofit service profession where we invest our time and ideas into students. It’s nice to see it’s appreciated and has made an impact. It’s humbling because you receive these awards only when you’ve been championed and helped by permission granters and people who rally around you.”

Melissa Nong lone QCHS student to achieve exclusive honor for 2020
Her 1500 score on the 2018 Preliminary SAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants, is achieved by fewer than one percent of today’s U.S. high school seniors.
Melissa is the school’s lone qualifier and one of only two students from the three Upper Bucks County districts to achieve the exclusive honor, along with Abigail Cozza of Pennridge.
“If someone would have told me that one person from our school would get this, I wouldn’t think it would be me,” Melissa said. “I’m in a state of shock.”

National Merit taps 3 as 'Commendable'

Three Quakertown Community High School seniors are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise by the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Ian Cummings, Tyler Einolf and Sierra Lee each received a Letter of Commendation for their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test in 2018.
Earlier this month, Melissa Nong was recognized for qualifying as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Having four students recognized by National Merit matches last year’s record for one class when Mikayla Fuentes and Adria Retter were Finalists and Nam Le and Hailey Reiss were Commendable.

Peace Center To Honor QCSD

QCSD 'is a model for what we would like to see in school districts around Bucks County and beyond'
The Quakertown Community School District will be honored by The Peace Center for implementing its diversity and inclusion program for elementary school students, “Celebrating Me, Celebrating You,” at a district-wide level.
“It’s the only district in Bucks County to do so,” said Kate Whitman, assistant director for The Peace Center, a social justice organization. “This is a well-deserved honor for the district.”
The Peace Center Auction Gala is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 20, from 4-7 p.m. at Spring Mill Manor.
“We very much appreciate this recognition given to our school district by the Peace Center,” Superintendent Dr. Bill Harner said. “More importantly, the work they have done in our classrooms, the lessons they have shared, have been a great benefit to our students. Our teachers have embraced the curriculum and feedback from our parents has been very positive.”

QCHS students packaging meals and raising money for hungry children
For the fourth year in a row, Quakertown Community High School students will be heading to Delaware Valley University to pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children.
The event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7. Students interested in participating must pick up a permission slip in the Main Office and return it signed no later than Wednesday, Sept. 25. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Soto in the Main Office.
“This is something the kids are very passionate about that strengthens our community,” said Juan Soto, an administrative intern at the high school. “They’re out there trying to make a difference and save lives by helping others less fortunate than themselves.”
The effort benefits Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food to people in developing nations.
In addition to packing meals, students are fundraising with a goal of $2,000 for the event, Mr. Soto said. On Friday, Oct. 4, students will be setting up two tables inside Alumni Field to raise money before and during the 7 p.m. football game between the Panthers and Upper Dublin.
