JMMES Weekly Update
The official newsletter of the JMMES Community-Vol. 2 8/10
General Announcements
This new newsletter format will hopefully move us toward our goal of fast, reliable information concerning John Marshall Middle Enterprise School and our community. Moving forward, this newsletter will be accessible on our school's website and families and stakeholders will hopefully be more informed of our programs, success and various announcements.
A few announcements:
- The start of school has been pushed back to August 31st. If this date changes we will let you know ASAP.
For Families:
Enrollment:
In-Person Enrollment begins Wednesday 8/5 through Monday 8/10; Extended day will be Thursday 8/6 until 7pm.
Families can watch a video tutorial here: Accessing Parent Portal.
New families, who live within the OKCPS boundaries, should complete the Online Registration form for their student(s) by going to www.okcps.org/enroll2020. Families can watch a video tutorial here: Online Registration (OLR).
New families who live outside the district boundaries may request a transfer to OKCPS to enroll in our e3 Online Learning option ONLY. OKCPS isn’t accepting transfers for our current traditional / remote learning option. Transfer Request (e3 Online Learning ONLY)
Fall Learning Plan Update from Superintendent McDaniel:
The first day of school is August 31st and the school year will begin virtually due to the current status of the pandemic in our community.
OKCPS is offering two options for learning this fall.
Option one is our Traditional Learning - Contingency Plan, being called Remote Learning. Simply put, this plan has OKCPS teachers bringing their classrooms to your students at home using technology. This option is teacher-driven and provides ongoing interaction between teacher and students in a small group online classroom setting using our learning management system coupled with assessments developed by OKCPS teachers.
Our Remote Learning Plan will be reevaluated half way through the first 9 weeks of school to determine if continuing virtually is the best option for students or if we can safely transition into some type of in-person learning.
Option two, called e3 Online Learning is a fully online option that allows students to work at their own pace, using the online learning platform called Florida Virtual (K-5) and Edgenuity (6-12). Pre-K curriculum will be created by a district team and provided through the SeeSaw platform. Students will have access to a teacher as a mentor, but this will primarily be self-led learning. Selecting this option requires a 9-week commitment for Pre-K - 8th grade and a semester-long commitment for 9th - 12th grade students.
In order for families to select our e3 Online Learning option, they must opt in through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. The deadline to opt in to e3 Online learning is August 9th. Families who would like their student to participate in our Remote Learning option don’t need to take any action aside from the enrollment process.

Professional Norms for Virtual PD
Professional Norms
As I taught my children, when you are out living in the world, you do not merely represent yourself. Rather, you represent your entire family. Your actions reflect either negatively or positively on the whole clan. The same is true with our professional lives. Thank you for following the protocol that was sent to you by Assistant Superintendent Tracy Skinner any time you are in a meeting where you represent yourself, JMMES, and the OKCPS School District.
Below are some basic norms for professionalism (and safety!) for our upcoming professional learning time - this will be important practice for school reopening!
Regardless of your location:
Wear appropriate professional dress (when you're participating by video, wearing all white, pastels, or busy patterns can be tiring to the eyes)
Be prepared with all materials you will need to be fully engaged (e.g. paper, pen, water, etc.)
If possible, use a headset to ensure the best possible audio experience
Sit in a well-lit area preferably with the light behind or beside your computer (a light or windows behind you can be distracting)
Sit at a desk or a table with space for your device and any materials you need to access
Use a chair that allows you to maintain healthy posture
Use your full name and school as your on-screen name
Leave camera on except during break times
Raise your camera to eye-level
Remain muted at all times unless asked to unmute
Close any unneeded programs and files during your meeting so that your computer can focus its processing power on the meeting and you can focus on the learning experience
Keep your devices plugged in during sessions. Video drains the batteries quickly.
When you are in an OKCPS building:
Maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others at all times
Wear a mask whenever you are in the presence of others indoors and in common spaces like halls, restrooms, and break rooms. Wear a mask outdoors when others are nearby.
Participate in online training alone in your classroom to the extent possible. (no mask is required if you are alone)
If you choose to participate from home:
Check your connectivity -- you will be expected to be present and engaged throughout the entire event. OKCPS sites will be available to you if your home connection is spotty. Cable or fiber broadband connection is recommended. If your connection has an upload speed less than 2 mbps or a download speed less than 5 mbps, participating from home is NOT recommended. Having a back-up connection ready (like your phone in hotspot mode) is recommended, just in case
Sit in a location where you are the only person using your internet connection (as opposed to a shared area where many people are vying for bandwidth)
Select a private, quiet location with a plain background
