Ms. Chan Students - November Service Project
Students from Ms. Chan's class are holding a donation drive
for the homeless in conjunction with CASS
Homelessness is a serious problem in Maricopa County. More than 25,800 people have no place to call home. They need help and we can't do it ourselves. We need you to help. We are holding a donation drive drive for the homeless, November 4th to November 22nd. There are boxes around the school with the CASS wish list.
Founded 35 years ago, CASS is the largest and longest serving homeless emergency shelter provider in Arizona.
Wish list items include clothing, hygiene and food items. For complete list, follow link or open PDF at bottom of newsletter. Even a single item from the list will help. Thank you! Isabella, Zoe and Dallyce.

OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT
Field Garden
Everyone gardens different; I'm all about the microbes! In 2009 I began to study western herbalism and holistic nutrition with the idea that I wanted to host clients in a clinical setting. During a field-trip to farms and gardens in the valley one day, I was especially inspired by one of them and inquired about employment possibilities. Once I began working on the farm with the plants, my goals quickly evolved to wanting to grow the herbs for other local clinics. Years later I started my company Cocopah Gardens, now Community Roots llc, to reach families through markets and workshops I put on. I continue to study and develop skills to share with others in hopes we can all together create a more natural connection with our food and the food web as a whole. Healthy soil is alive; it's my goal to teach as many people about it as I can and encourage them to do the same!
I am passionate about introducing kids to the nature side of gardening, the little things unseen to the eye that make it all possible. Kids are great at imagining all the various roles characters play in the soil web of life, and expanding that thought to how the soil comes to affect the rest of the garden ecosystem as a whole. I look forward to teaching the kids about important topics like ecology, water and waste, while developing techniques like no-till gardening, harvesting, and seed saving. I believe gardens provide countless positive influences and experiences to people of all ages, especially kids.
I love garden questions! Happy Planting!
