Wolverine News

October 12, 2020

Dear Families,

Thank you for taking the time to carefully read through our school newsletter. You may notice that some articles remain in the newsletter for multiple weeks. That is intentional so that important information gets communicated to all families as we roll out new processes and procedures for distance learning.

If you have any questions about online learning, please contact your child's advisory teacher or the front office at 503-663-3323. Again, thank you for partnering with us to help ensure a successful start to the school year.

Our mission is to prepare our students for the best comprehensive distance learning experience possible. We ask that you guide and support your child's learning by ensuring that they:

  • Attend all classes, arrive on time, and be prepared and ready for the day's learning.
  • Complete and turn in all assignments on time.
  • Consistently communicate with their teachers.
  • Know that you expect them to succeed in school.

Together we will make this Mission Possible!

Ms. Elise Catanese

iReady Math & Reading Assessments

For the next two weeks, your student(s) will be taking an online assessment in Math and Reading called iReady. Attached is a flyer with a link to a video that explains more. Please do not help your student with answers, but encourage them to do their best and know that they may not be able to answer every question. The results of the assessment will give their teachers information about how they can best support your student(s) strengths and areas of growth. If you have any questions about the assessment, please contact your student(s) teacher.

iReady Diagnostic Schedule:

  • Week #1: October 5-11 - Math
  • Week #2: October 12-18 - Reading
  • Week #3: October 19-23 - Completion and Make-up

Progress report grades will be posted to ParentVue and StudentVue on Wednesday, October 14. Progress grades are NOT final grades. Students and families should check their StudentVue and/or ParentVue accounts for progress report updates.

As always, students and parents will be able to monitor progress through both StudentVUE and ParentVUE. If you do not have a ParentVUE account at this time, please email Carla Hunt, our counseling secretary at: hunt@gresham.k12.or.us.

WOMS Counseling Center

Hi, Wolverine Students & Families!

As you know, we are in "a new normal" right now at school and at home. I want to encourage each of you by saying you are not alone and there are ways to work through whatever you need and are feeling. I have compiled links that include food, community, and mental health resources. There is even a virtual calming room where students can access tools, videos, and activities helpful to their success. Please check out the WOMS Counseling Center and contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you! -Ms. Kinder

Attendance: Every Day Matters in eGBSD

Every Day Matters in eGBSD Flyer - English

Every Day Matters in eGBSD Flyer - Spanish

Daily attendance is very important to academic achievement and connection with peers. Daily attendance is required and daily participation is expected in online face-to-face class sessions.

If a student does not attend the scheduled face-to-face class during the day, an auto-dialed message will be sent to parents letting them know that the student did not attend the online lesson. The message will then explain that students can still be counted as attending the class for that day if they complete and submit any assigned work and email their teacher by the end of the day.

When there is no evidence of student interaction during a 24-hour period surrounding a scheduled school day as described, students are reported as absent for the day.

Please contact the main office at 503-663-3323 if your student is not able to participate during a daily synchronous session. It is important to know what types of activities count as attending.
