From the Middle EMS and ELA

News from the Principal, February 9, 2021

Hello Parents and Families,

I hope everyone is remaining safe and healthy. Our EMS 8th graders are on "rolling remote" this week and are attending classes on Zoom each day. We continue to maintain social distancing and mask wearing in order to reduce the spread of COVID. Our students and staff have done an amazing job of working through all the health regulations. Thank you!!

This Friday (2-12) and the following Monday (2-15) we do not have school.

If at any time you need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out.

~Annessa Hart, Principal

Reserve your spot for next year--the deadline is soon!

If you live outside of Englewood, and plan to continue in Englewood Schools for 2021/2022 school year, you MUST complete the Choice Enrollment application now in order to attend an Englewood School next year. Those who live out of district and who do not complete a choice enrollment application will not be able to attend Englewood schools in the fall.

Round 1: January 4, 2021 through February 1, 2021

Round 2: February 15, 2021 through August 31, 2021

Englewood offers unique and customized learning opportunities at each school, so you're sure to find one that suits your student. Space is limited, so please fill out the Open Enrollment Application and Agreement (en español) as soon as you have made a decision.

Return the form to the District Registrar at 4101 S. Bannock St. or to during the choice enrollment window.

Final decisions will be made within two weeks of the closing of the enrollment window and families will be notified by mail.

If you have questions, please reach out to Trish Tucker in our main office at 303-806-2100.

Big picture
Englewood Middle School is excited to host it’s third Wish Week March 8-12. Wish Week is a part of the Kids for Wish Kids program for Make-A-Wish Colorado. Schools spend one week raising money through a variety of fundraisers to help grant wishes to children with critical illnesses. Currently, Make-A-Wish Colorado has more kids waiting for a wish than ever before. This year we have the opportunity to raise money on behalf of kids like Cliff, he is a 4 year old with congenital heart disease and because of COVID, his wish is on hold. Cliff loves the colors pink and green, Star Trek, Sir Patrick Stewart, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Minnesota Vikings. We will have a variety of fundraisers to participate in and we would love your support!

Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate the pandemic and our responses to positive cases in our school. This week, all 7th graders moved to REMOTE learning due to a presumptive positive case. As long as students are symptom free, they may return to school Monday, February 1.

When we have a COVID case, you will receive one letter specific to your student's situation:

Letter One--your student was exposed and needs to quarantine (in most cases, this is isolated to just one cohort)

Letter Two--your student was not exposed, but needs to attend school online in "rolling remote." This means that your student's cohort was not exposed, but we do not have the staff available to continue in-person learning during the quarantine.

I will also send a letter to the entire community just to keep everyone informed--this letter is for those who are not impacted by the quarantine or rolling remote.

When students are on "rolling remote" learning, school is still mandatory and zoom meetings are required for students to be counted present (please see below).

Remote Learning Reminders

Please keep in mind that attendance in daily Zoom meetings is essential and required.

If your student or household is dealing with Covid, please leave a message on our attendance line so we can continue to track Covid in our community.

  • Students who do not login will be counted absent.
  • Students need to be on time to their zoom call. Missing too much of the Zoom call will result in an absence.
  • If your child will not be present in remote learning, please call the attendance line to excuse their absence (within 24 hours of the absence).
  • One point of confusion for students has been which day and which zoom. We are on a rotation schedule just like we were while in-person. If students struggle with getting on Zoom, they should email their teachers immediately so teachers can help problem-solve.

Family Resource: Hearing the Call

There is an upcoming clinic for those who are low income and need help with their hearing. All the information is at this link - including a downloadable application. The date is March 6 and the location is near Dry Creek and Broadway.

Parent Involvement Opportunities

ESEAC is a committee of staff members, parents and community members from Englewood Schools that meets monthly to discuss the way the district meets the needs of special education students and their families.
