Moose Minute

Mrs. James' 1st Grade Class - Crozet Elementary School

This Week's Sneak Peek: December 20, 2013

We celebrated Hanukkah! We made paper dreidels and read a favorite story, Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins. We discussed the candles that are lit on the menorah during Hanukkah.

We celebrated Kwanzaa! We made mkeka mats and read, Seven Candles for Kwanzaa. We discussed the candles that are lit on the kinara during Kwanzaa. We also had two special events! We had a storyteller visit our school in the morning. She told a sad story with a happy ending about a brother, a sister, and a dog. Then, after lunch, Sofi's dad visited to play the guitar for us, and sing some songs. What a great day!

We celebrated Christmas! We made trees and read, Come and See. We discussed the candles that are lit for advent during the weeks leading to Christmas. In the afternoon we created special gifts for our families!

We visited a 4th grade and were able to "canoe across Virginia!" Ask your child about the passports he or she created! Then in the afternoon we had our class Winter Celebration. Mrs. James completely forgot to take pictures - due to sugar overload, I'm sure. :)

We were so happy to wear our pajamas and cuddle and read with our stuffed friends. What a great way to end a fabulous week!
