The High School Staff and Administration shares their sincere gratitude to the PTO Committee, Parents, and Guardians for providing a wonderful staff meal on October 10th. The generous offering allowed staff to enjoy a delicious meal and conversations with peers, prior to the start of conferences. This act of kindness will always be appreciated. Thank you once again!
COME ONE - COME ALL!
The Waunakee Fire Department will be hosting a PANCAKE BREAKFAST and OPEN HOUSE on Sunday, October 16th, serving from 8am and noon. Pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, milk, and juice. Adults $8, kids 10 & under are free.
School to Career Opportunities
A new program at the high school this year is Waunakee Career Lunch Wednesdays. Local Waunakee businesses are invited to request a table in our commons during both early and late lunch to share career information, part-time employment opportunities, or to provide a high-level overview of their business or organization. If you are affiliated with any local business or organization and would like to sign up for a table, please send a request via the link provided here! This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain valuable career planning experience.
FREE LIVE MUSIC AT THE HIGH SCHOOL
Come celebrate 100 years of music education in Waunakee Schools at our Faculty Cabaret. Enjoy music provided by our Waunakee music teachers, retirees, and friends. Highlights include Landslide (Stevie Nicks), Clarinet Quartet (With Mr Gill and Ms. Petroff), Sine You no More (with Ms. Heiks and friends) and Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder) with a full brass section.
The event is free and open to the public. Come join us starting at 6:30 pm in the High School Commons, Monday, October 17th.

POST PROM Planning Committee Meeting
Junior Parents and Guardians: The Post Prom Planning Committee needs your help! If you would like to help plan/organize the Post Prom festivities on April 22, 2023, join the committee for a meeting at the Waunakee Village Center at 6pm on Wednesday October 19th.
If you are interested in helping out, but unable to make the meeting, please contact Steve Hernandez at stevenhernandez@waunakee.k12.wi.us so that he can pass your name onto the Post Prom Planning Committee.
Post Prom is organized by parents/guardians and offers a wonderful opportunity for our students following Prom. Thank you for your help and support in advance.
GRADUATION MEETING FOR SENIORS!
The Jostens rep will meet with SENIORS during Contact Time on Wednesday, October 19th in the PAC. Students will receive a packet of information and an explanation on how to order Graduation Cap/Gown & Announcement products. GOOD LUCK "Warrior Mountain Bikers"
Waunakee Mountain Biking will be finishing their 2022 season this upcoming weekend. Over 40 athletes in grades 6-12 participate in mountain biking as Waunakee Warriors! Join us in cheering them on as they wrap up their season at the Trek State Championship race in Waterloo, WI , October 22-23. Spectators are welcome to come watch over 1500 Wisconsin bike racers compete in one of the largest youth sporting event in our state. Cheer on the Warriors and enjoy a fun, festive weekend at the trails! More info is available at wisconsinmtb.org. School Clubs provide indoor TRICK OR TREATING
Waunakee National Honor Society is excited to announce the 6th Annual "Halloween in the Halls". This is a fun (and climate-controlled) trick-or-treat event at the high school. All children from preschool through sixth grade are invited to attend. Several high school clubs will provide treats and activities throughout the halls. Admission is free. The event will run from 4:00-5:30 PM on Wednesday, October 26. Families should enter the high school through Door #1/Main Entrance. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of School Safety (OSS) is now accepting applications for their Student Advisory Committee to represent high school students from across Wisconsin. If interested, click the attached application. Completed applications must be emailed to OSS at schoolsafety@doj.state.wi.us by October 28 to be considered.

A reminder to Seniors to please pay the one time $15 Transcript Fee in the Infinite Campus School Store if you have requested, or plan to request, a transcript to be sent via Naviance to a college(s) you are applying to. Please stop in the Counseling Office with any questions.

ATTENDANCE NOTICE
Please be reminded that attendance issues called-in for your student can take up to 24 hours to register correctly in Infinite Campus.
It is also important to note that students are required to sign out at the attendance desk or with the nurse, if feeling ill, before leaving the building. It is a significant matter of security that we know where students are at all times. Parent excuses for a student who has already left the building will not be accepted by attendance as the issue will need to be addressed with the student's associate principal. Thanks very much for keeping our students safe and accounted for!

WNC: The Heart of Our Community
Waunakee Neighborhood Connection (WNC) provides programs and resources that engage neighbors in supporting and empowering one another.
Waunakee Neighborhood Connection will host a winter clothing distribution event on October 21st. WNC clients can select winter coats, snow pants, boots, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves for all registered members of their household.

If you are interested in participating in the Waunakee Athletic Department Signing Day, please complete the survey below. The Waunakee Athletic Department follows NCAA National Letter of Intent dates for our signing events. Seniors will be requested for a Contact Time to review the process and answer any questions students may have. There will also be an email message sent to families before the signing dates. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Activities Department at aaronmay@waunakee.k12.wi.us.
Per High School Co-curricular code the signing ceremony is only available to student-athletes that competed for Waunakee High School Athletics during their senior year. See page 24 of the Co-curricular handbook for more information.

In-Person Training Dates and Times:
- Friday, January 6, 2023 6:00-9:00 pm
- Saturday, January 7, 2023 12:00-5:00 pm
- Sunday, January 8, 2023 9:30-4:00 pm
- Friday, January 13, 2023 6:00-9:00 pm
- Saturday, January 14, 2023 10:00-5:00 pm
This class also requires approximately 7 hours of online simulation.
Cost:
- Waunakee Community High School Students: $ 50.00
- Waunakee Residents $200.00
- Non-Waunakee Residents $250.00
Lifeguard Training Course Prerequisites:
- A 300-yard swim that continuously demonstrates breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
- Treading water using only the legs for 2 minutes.
- A timed event performed within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface in order to breathe (or get a breath). Candidates should not swim the distance underwater. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Students must successfully complete the course prerequisites, PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF
CLASS, to participate in this course. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by January 14,
2023. To receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification candidates must:
- attend ALL scheduled class sessions,
- successfully complete ALL course skills and scenarios including FINAL SKILLS scenarios, and
- pass the two written exams with a score of 80% or higher.
Please access the REVTRAK link below to register for this course. The class will be limited to 6 participants. Once candidates are registered, an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor will be in contact to arrange a time to demonstrate the course prerequisites.
