Rhino Weekly Connection
1.23.23
Note from Interim Principal Mrs. Smetzer!
Happy Monday and welcome to another awesome week at Ryan. It was great seeing so many of you (over 200!) at last week's STEAM night, as kids and families engaged in math and science games. Thank you to everyone who helped make this night a success, including Mr. Appling, Ms. Tisha, and our PTA.
Please pay special attention to the note below about tardies. We have seen an increase in tardies in the last few weeks, with today being our largest number of tardies so far, reaching over 90 students arriving to school after the 7:50 am bell. While we will always be understanding of special circumstances, it is imperative that students are at school for the full duration of the school day so that they can participate in and benefit from all of the instruction and learning experiences. Thank you for working with us to get all our students here on time!
As you have the chance, please vote for our very own Mr. Stone as the National Hockey League's Most Valuable Teacher! This is recognition for Mr. Stone as an amazing teacher and also offers potential grant money for our entire school if he wins. Voting ends January 31.
In this week's update you will find:
- Tardies announcement
- Steam night success update
- Voting details for most valuable teacher
- Trivia night update
- Volunteer opportunities
- Garden to table information
- PTA update
- Class photo details
- Spring conference dates
Go Rhinos!
Kristen Smetzer
TODAY WE HAD over 90 TARDIES!
This means more than 21% of our students were late today!!
We need to see improvement!
PLEASE try leaving your house 10 minutes earlier or setting your alarm, or two alarms, 10 minutes earlier!
The first bell rings at 7:47AM (8:47 on Wednesdays), The tardy bell rings at 7:50AM (8:50 on Wednesdays). If a student arrives after 7:50AM, they are tardy and need to check in at the Office.
Please get your student to school on time, also let us know if you need support or if there is anyway we can help.
STEAM Night Success!
Thanks to everyone who came out for our first STEAM Night of the year! It was a fun, full house!
We also appreciate all who helped out and our PTA for sponsoring these wonderful events. Our Ryan community simply rocks!
If you missed it, there will be another one in the spring.
For now, full STEAM ahead, Rhinos!
- Ms. Tisha & Mr. Appling
Please Vote for Most Valuable Teacher Award!!

Garden to Table
Despite all of this snow, it's the season where we start thinking about planting lettuce in the greenhouse for Spring lessons! We'd love to have your help and support in planting lettuce on Saturday January 28th from 1pm-3pm at the Boulder Valley School District Greenhouse (6600 Arapahoe Road). The greenhouse can be a little tricky to find, so please feel free to call Courtlyn at (970) 433-1305 if you get lost on the way.
This will be an opportunity to meet our team, help ensure success at your school gardens this year, and just have a fun time. Families are absolutely welcome to join!
If you're interested in attending, please RSVP to Courtlyn at courtlyn@gardentotable.org OR (970) 433-1305.
