Note from Interim Principal Mrs. Smetzer!

Hello Ryan Families,

Happy Monday and welcome to another awesome week at Ryan. It was great seeing so many of you (over 200!) at last week's STEAM night, as kids and families engaged in math and science games. Thank you to everyone who helped make this night a success, including Mr. Appling, Ms. Tisha, and our PTA.

Please pay special attention to the note below about tardies. We have seen an increase in tardies in the last few weeks, with today being our largest number of tardies so far, reaching over 90 students arriving to school after the 7:50 am bell. While we will always be understanding of special circumstances, it is imperative that students are at school for the full duration of the school day so that they can participate in and benefit from all of the instruction and learning experiences. Thank you for working with us to get all our students here on time!

As you have the chance, please vote for our very own Mr. Stone as the National Hockey League's Most Valuable Teacher! This is recognition for Mr. Stone as an amazing teacher and also offers potential grant money for our entire school if he wins. Voting ends January 31.

In this week's update you will find:

  • Tardies announcement
  • Steam night success update
  • Voting details for most valuable teacher
  • Trivia night update
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Garden to table information
  • PTA update
  • Class photo details
  • Spring conference dates

Go Rhinos!

Kristen Smetzer

TODAY WE HAD over 90 TARDIES!

This means more than 21% of our students were late today!!

We need to see improvement!

PLEASE try leaving your house 10 minutes earlier or setting your alarm, or two alarms, 10 minutes earlier!

The first bell rings at 7:47AM (8:47 on Wednesdays), The tardy bell rings at 7:50AM (8:50 on Wednesdays). If a student arrives after 7:50AM, they are tardy and need to check in at the Office.

Please get your student to school on time, also let us know if you need support or if there is anyway we can help.

STEAM Night Success!

Thanks to everyone who came out for our first STEAM Night of the year! It was a fun, full house!

We also appreciate all who helped out and our PTA for sponsoring these wonderful events. Our Ryan community simply rocks!

If you missed it, there will be another one in the spring.

For now, full STEAM ahead, Rhinos!

- Ms. Tisha & Mr. Appling

Big picture

Please Vote for Most Valuable Teacher Award!!

Bobby Stone, 5th grade teacher at Ryan Elementary, has been selected as a nominee for the 2022-2023 NHL/NHLPA Most Valuable Teacher. Throughout the month, teachers, students and parents will be able to visit NHL.com/MVT and vote once a day, every day, for Mr. Stone! The teacher selected as a finalist each month will win an NHL club jersey and a $10,000 Environmental Sustainability grant for their school district provided by SAP. We Are Looking for Donations for Our Upcoming Trivia Night Silent Auction!

If you or someone you know has a special item or talent that you would like to share, please contact Francie Wojcik at francescwojcik@gmail.com OR drop your donation off in the Ryan office. (Be sure to let the office know the donation is for the Silent Auction and leave your contact information so we can thank you!)

DONATION POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! Ideas include:

  • Experiences: behind the scenes tour, mini-vacation, sporting or performance tickets (Have season tickets to the Rockies and know you’ll be out of town for a game? Add them to the auction! Nana and Grandad have a ski condo in Winter Park? Your Ryan friends would LOVE to stay there!)

Donating your services or products for the auction can be a great way to get the word out to the Ryan community about your business or talents while helping to support Ryan students. The PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so donations are fully tax deductible as allowed by law. All proceeds from the auction and the event benefit our students through supplies, activities, field trips, and other education opportunities. Thanks so much for considering!
