- When going through your child's trapper, make sure they are with you and are not throwing away important paperwork.
- Daily Homework includes: Reading every night for 30 minutes and Math Fact Practice
- It would be a good idea for the students to keep a sweatshirt in their lockers for those days that are a little chilly.
- As the temperatures begin to cool, please make sure to send your student with a coat! We will go outside unless the temperature is 20 degrees or below.
Math
In math, we concluded multiplying whole numbers last Friday. We are moving on to dividing whole numbers, topic 5. Within this unit students will work through the following topics:
5-1: Use patterns and mental math to divide
5-2: Estimate quotients with 2-digit divisors
5-3: Use models to divide with 2-digit divisors
5-4: Use partial quotients to divide
5-5: Divide by multiples of 10
5-6: Use estimation to place the first digit of the quotient

It is essential that they know their math facts fluently at this stage. Please practice at home, utilize Xtramath.org, students all have a log-in!

ELA
We have tested on Theme and figurative language. Our next unit is compare and contrast using fiction texts. We will take our pre-assessment on Tuesday and begin instruction next Monday. As a class we are reading a novel. It is Maniac Magee. This text will be used in the unit to compare characters, settings, and also reference this novel to our first one The Watson's Go to Birmingham.
For writing, we are currently in our rough draft phase of the 3rd Person Narrative. The kids have a good start and seem to be enjoying their creative writing topics.
For homework, the kids will have a nightly requirement of reading for 30 minutes. I was informed by many kids that they are not reading at home. This is currently all I am giving as an expectation for them. We had our first celebration with several kids participating. I hope to have an even greater number this quarter! I know they have a stronger understanding of the importance of pacing themselves to ensure they have a better chance to meet their goals. AR is an expectation that they will have all through middle school, so developing these habits and fulfilling requirements is good to figure out now as they approach actual letter grades.Be watching for your midterm slips to sign next Friday.
Science
Thank you so very much for all of the supply donations!!! We have been having a blast conducting labs to learn about physical and chemical changes as well as the law of conservation of matter. We will be concluding our unit on matter with mixtures and solutions.
Social Studies
We are wrapping up our economics unit with an assessment tomorrow. Your child has a study guide, note cards, and I shared with you the Kahoot that works nicely with the assessment.
Our next unit is on Pre-Revolutionary War and the impact England had on the colonists wanting to break away from the king. This unit will go to the end of 2nd quarter.
