Eagle Newsletter
May 3-7, 2021
On Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7 only 8th grade test takers will be In Person. 6th & 7th Grade students will be virtual.
Dear Parents,
The Texas Education Agency has released a waiver application to allow hybrid instruction during district scheduled STAAR testing days for K-8th grade students. This waiver would allow us to provide (non-testing) groups of students to work asynchronously/virtual on specific days if there is not enough space to safely proctor the paper assessments on the STAAR testing date
Therefore, on May 6-7, 2021 all 6th and 7th grade students in addition to the 8th grade virtual students who are not testing will stay home and work online while the 8th grade in-person and virtual students who have signed up to test take their STAAR test. This is to provide safety through proper social distancing throughout the school. Students and personnel will be safe because we will be reducing the number of students in the building. If you have any questions or concerns, please email cprados@houstonisd.org.

Answer: No, however TEA has not waived EOC testing for the 2020-2021 school year. Our recommendation is that all Algebra students take the EOC while the material is fresh on their mind. Either they take it now or in High school but they will have to take the EOC to graduate.
HISD celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7
To celebrate the week, HISD is launching a campaign that focuses on these All Stars—and students, staff, parents, and the community are invited to participate through social media.
Here’s the game plan if you would like to participate in the fun on social media use the hashtag #ThankHISDTeachers and tag @BCMbiotechRusk and @HoustonISD
Monday MVP (May 3): Who is your teacher MVP? Are they a current teacher, or do you have a fond memory of a teacher who impacted your life?
Tuesday Team Player (May 4): Do you know a teacher with a team-first mentality?
Wednesday’s Chalk Talk (May 5): Grab your sidewalk chalk and create a message to say “thank you” to your teachers!
Try-out Thursday (May 6): Channel your inner cheerleader and create a fun cheer for your favorite teacher or teachers.
Flexible Friday (May 7): This has been the “Year of Flexibility,” and we’re grateful to our teachers who have cartwheeled, back-flipped, and somersaulted through the school year. Show teachers the love with a special video message and (optional) your best gymnastics move!
Each day use the hashtag #ThankHISDTeachers and tag @BCMbiotechRusk and @HoustonISD .
