Donate to Midway while you shop this holiday season!
It is the time of year where we are all looking for deals this holiday season. As you are getting those deals online, we wanted to remind you that Midway Heights PTA has an Amazon Smile account! You just need to go to smile.amazon.com and support "PTA Missouri Congress Midway Heights PTA". It is a long name but you can search and it pops right up! You can also set it up through your Amazon app on your phone! So as you are shopping on the go you can be supporting our school. Happy shopping everyone! Thank you for supporting our school!
No December Meeting
There is not a PTA Meeting in December. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back after the break for our January 19, 2021 meeting. Please watch for Zoom information in the upcoming newsletter.
A Note from Nurse Jan
Reporting positive and close contact cases
Even though we are currently in virtual learning mode, it is still important to notify the school if your child has tested positive or is a close contact for COVID. We want to make sure the affected is staying relatively healthy, isolating/quarantining as required, and offer assistance to the family as needed. It is also important for the school to know this information for when the students are back in seat. If there is a positive or close contact situation when students are in the building, we would then be able to review our records and know which students needed to still quarantine at home and which students had immunity and could remain at school.
Thanks for all you are doing.
Nurse Jan
Free COVID-19 Testing for Students
The type of test that will be used is most accurate when administered in the first 7 days of symptom onset. Therefore, prior to testing, staff, parents and/or guardians will call the CPS nurse triage phone line at (573) 214-3975 to discuss the need for testing based on these guidelines. The phone line will be open from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, school days only.
If it is determined that the student or staff member will be tested, an appointment will be made for one of the 2 testing sites located at either Hickman or Rock Bridge high schools. Testing appointments will be Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. when school is in session. Testing will not be available on days that school is closed for breaks or snow days.
The test is performed by nasal swab. After the swab is done, the individual will return home and begin isolating until they receive their test result from a CPS nurse. The nurse will provide guidance on what actions should be taken based on the test result.
Join us for some holiday fun!
We have a lot to do academically before winter break begins but let's have a little fun along the way, too! We'd love for all the kids to join in on the festivities and fun!

iPads and Winter Break
Here are some helpful tips for iPad care as winter break begins:
- Charge the device completely.
- Turn the device off (hold power button until you get the message “slide to power off”, then slide the button to turn it off).
- Store the device in a safe location where it will not get lost and where siblings cannot play with it.
- If your student needs to do school work over winter break, give them the iPad only for that schoolwork. Help your student remember that school iPads are not like personal devices---they should only be used for school work. Additional apps and games should not be downloaded from self-service. The iPad camera should not be used to take a bunch of holiday pictures of family and friends. Both of these activities take up a lot of storage on the iPad and could prevent the iPad from working properly when we return from winter break.
- On January 4th, turn the device back on. Check for a software update (go to settings, then choose “general” on the left menu and “software update” on the right menu). Update the software if needed.
- Make sure that the device is charged and ready to go for January 5th!
Library Book Checkouts
Students can still checkout books from the school library during this time of remote learning! Library book requests need to be placed prior to 3:00pm on Friday, December 18th for any books that students want before winter break begins. There will be no library checkouts during winter break. Book requests will begin to be filled again on January 4th. Use this Curbside Pick Up FAQ sheet for guidance on how to make book requests!
