Dear Milnes Families,
It was a fun-filled first full week back at Milnes!
Next week is Start with Hello Week at Milnes! This initiative was born out of the Sandy Hook Promise. Please see below for more information as we have activities planned for each day.
Wednesday, September 21st is Back to School Night! This event is for parents/guardians only. We are thrilled to once again offer an in person opportunity to see our classrooms and meet our teachers. Special Area Teachers will be located in the Media Center. We look forward to seeing you there!
The Fair Lawn School District is in the process of identifying students for participation in our Elementary Math and Literacy Intervention Programs. These programs provide services to those students who require additional academic support in the areas of reading comprehension, language arts, and/or mathematics. The District has also scheduled a Parent Information Session to be held on September 28, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Middle School Auditorium in order to provide you with information about these programs. Final eligibility letters will be sent to parents on or around September 23, 2022.
The Delayed Opening Schedule is below and also available on our website. Please read through it so that your family is prepared should we need to move to a delayed opening or early dismissal due to weather.
Enjoy the weekend!
Warmly,
Mrs. Stephanie Primavera

NJ Start Strong Grade 4
In September, students in various grade levels will take the Start Strong assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. These brief assessments (45-60 minutes each) are designed to maximize instructional time and quickly provide critical data to teachers and school leaders regarding student progress from the prior school year. The Start Strong assessments:
○ are based on a subset of prioritized prior-year academic standards; and
○ are available in ELA grades 4-10, Mathematics grades 4-8, Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II, and in Science grades 6, 9, and 12. Please see the schedule below.
If you have any questions about this assessment, please contact Mrs. Primavera.
REACH Program
Trimester 1:
Grade 2 Primary Thinking Skills Program Push-In:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. Weekly lessons are provided using the P.E.T.S. (Primary Education Thinking Skills) which is a systemized enrichment and diagnostic thinking skills program that serves a dual purpose of helping in the identification of academically talented learners and teaching students higher-level thinking skills. Through stories and a series of whole class activities, students are encouraged to practice and develop four different thinking skills: convergent, divergent, visual, and evaluative.
Grade 3 STEM:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. The weekly STEM lessons and challenges focus on the Engineering Design Process. Students will learn about how gravity, compression, and tension are important factors when building structures. The students will engage in building challenges using different materials.
Grade 4 STEM:
This is a Type 1 REACH Program offering. The weekly STEM lessons and challenges deepen our students’ experience and understanding of the Engineering Design Process as a strategy to attack real life problems. The STEM challenges are hands-on and encourage risk-taking and experimentation, two necessary components to innovative thinking.
Grade 4 Independent Study - STEM Invention:
This is a Type 2 REACH Program offering. This self-select program is for interested, task committed and highly motivated students. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to plan, design, build and present an original idea.
Reporting Student Absences
Kindly enter all absences, late arrivals and early releases as follows:
· Using the Genesis Parent Portal (Attendance Tab): Select date(s), time(s), reason for absence. Using the “Notes” section, please indicate additional pertinent information (i.e. Travel, Dr. Appt., Illness, etc.).
· Call the Attendance line: (201-794-5550, Option #2). Please leave your child’s name, teacher, reason for absence and date(s)/time(s).
