Sipley School Weekly Howl
Week of 8/15/2018 & 8/20/2018
Students will remember 3-4 times what you're trying to teach them if, when they learn it, they are in a good mood and their teacher is passionate and enthusiastic about the content.
First Day of School!
Teachers will be in position with their signs. Teachers, check your own roster in the morning. We had students registering into the evening on Wednesday.
We have Nevine, Evan, Michelle, Tina, and Ewa at Breakfast Club. On this day only, if students get done by 8:10, send them out the gym doors and have them join their class as I expect we will enter the building closer to 8:20 tomorrow.
Toni, Kim, and myself will shift ourselves to the circle doors as students enter. We want to stop parents from entering, including kindergarten parents. We will be super sensitive to them.
If a parents needs to get to the office, please escort them to the office.
The first day is crazy. Expect the unexpected and bring some of our anxious parents down with smiles and love.
BIG THANKS
Thanks, Larry, Lynda, Jeanine, and Vince!!!!
CHAMPS
If you go to the Team Drive -> Sipley Behavior Items -> Structure, you will find the ODR, the Three Step Process, the T-Chart (office handled and classroom handled behaviors), Student Mentor List, Red Pass Pairings, Huskie Team Information, and some master passes for areas of our building.
These items would have been helpful earlier!!! Again, I am sorry.
Monday Meeting Topic
This is one of the most important parts of chapter 3 and part of the S in STOIC. We will go through an awesome task that will bring great cohesion to when to send a student to the office. You will not need anything for this meeting. I will have all the materials for you.
Lesson Plans
As shared today, the workshop model, Eureka, and Amplify follow a gradual release model. IF you are following the model, in the area for GRR, simply put, the following (as an example): Following Unit 1, Session 14.
So, for this one lesson, My plan could look like this:
WALT - We Are Learning To study other elements of a story, beyond the characters (taken from the lesson title in this case)
Success Criteria - I can determine the character(s), relationships, setting, and important objects in a story. I can tell you what each of these details teach me. I can make interpretations based on what the details tell me.
GRR - Unit 1, Session 14
Formative Assessment - Students will read independently and as they do, they will listen for that "ding, ding" in their head when they find important parts of a text and they will write how those details may be part of a bigger idea or theme. Students will jot their thoughts in their Reader's Notebook.
I understand that writing lesson plans this way is new and I know that comes with a learning curve. Be patient with yourself as I will be patient with you. I absolutely think this will help you and your students, which is why I am pushing for this. A next step will be to take the Reader's Notebook, for example, and analyze student work for the purpose of feedback and planning.
New to CHAMPS?
New to CHAMPS - Don't fret. We are breaking STOIC down over the course of the year. You will come up to speed, but you can help yourself by skimming chapters 1 - 3.
