Principal’s Message
Not only is the weather changing but so is our staffing at École Charlie Killam School. Commencing on Monday, November 18th,Mr. Reid Lansing will become the Principal at Chester Ronning School. Mr. Lansing will continue to run the morning on-ice component of our Hockey Academy for the remainder of the season. Mr. Brandon Leblanc-Little will take over the afternoon off-ice conditioning section of our Hockey Academy. Mr. Lansing has helped create a vibrant and respectful school; always putting kids first. His kind demeanor and caring heart will be forever a part of Our House. The staff and students will miss Mr. Lansing, but we know he will be an amazing addition to Chester Ronning School.
There will be two Acting Assistant Principals taking over Mr. Lansing position. Ms. Krysta Rathwell will be an Acting Assistant Principal on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays until mid April when she will then assume the position on a full time basis for the remainder of the year. Until mid April, Mrs. Elaschuk will be the other Acting Assistant Principal on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no change in position for Mr. Mackenzie or Mr. Hoyland.
As we move through this shift in staffing, we look forward to working with our students, parents and staff to continually build a strong school.
Parent Teacher Interviews
This year we are going to try something different with our Parent Teacher Interviews in Our House. After consulting with our School Council and getting valuable input, we will no longer be having interview in the gym. Instead, parents can have more private conversations with teachers in their classrooms. This will give parents an opportunity to visit the various classrooms of their child and see our school a little better.
There will be school maps up around Our House so you will be able to find the teacher you are looking for. Chairs will be set up outside of classes and we ask that interviews last approximately 10 minutes long. Parents are encouraged to bring their child/children along to the interview.
Parent Teacher Interviews run Wednesday, November 6th and Thursday, November 7th from 4:00 to 7:30 each night.
Book Fair
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
· Set the example. Let children see you read.
· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates and hours:
November 4, 5 and (school hours)
November 6 and 7 open until 6:30
Special activities: November 7, GRAND Event! Grandparents are invited to join their grandchildren in visiting the school and pursuing the book fair!
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Helene Scheilke
