Lil Steamer Families --
First and foremost, on behalf of the FES school family, we want to say THANK YOU to all of our veterans for your service. We are saddened that we were unable to have a proper Veterans Day assembly in your honor, but we are looking forward to the opportunity in the future.
Next, I want to be transparent with information surrounding recent COVID concerns. Since the start of the school year, a couple bits of information stand out to me:
- Total number of students who have tested positive for COVID at FES: 4
- Total number of staff who have tested positive for COVID at FES: 3
In approximately 3 months, we have had a total of 7 COVID positive cases in our building. If you would have bet me in July those would be our numbers in November, I would have bet the farm against it. This is a huge credit to the staff, students, and families in their diligence to follow our safety guidelines.
As the holiday season approaches, I urge you to be mindful of your interactions with others. It is not my place to tell you how to enjoy the holidays. However, it is my place to do my best to keep our school safe.
As such, I think a simple phrase could benefit us all as we approach the holidays:
WHEN IN DOUBT, SIT IT OUT!
If you are ever concerned about your exposure, even without showing symptoms, I would encourage you or your child(ren) to stay home. Family gatherings can be quite large; I know this firsthand as the youngest child of five! Not only could the decision prevent teachers from having to quarantine, but it would also keep other students in school and not impact their learning.
I'm very proud of how far our school has come in this tumultuous year. And I'm very proud to your principal at the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe!
JAGH
P.S. Give your kiddos an extra big hug this weekend on behalf of our school family, since we are unable to do so this year :)
Student Absences from October 20 through November 12
Symptoms - student or household member showed COVID symptoms
Positive - student is COVID positive
Household - someone other than student in household is COVID positive
Exposure - student had exposure to a COVID positive or COVID probable individual
It is important to note that the VAST MAJORITY of quarantines occur due to exposure outside of the school setting or within the household.

Communication skills are an important part of children’s development. Teaching effective communication skills to children may help them to express themselves clearly and convey their feelings in a better manner. Children who are too passive are at a higher risk of being picked on. Students who are too aggressive in their interactions have fewer friends. Encourage your child to communicate their feelings to you. Acknowledge their feelings and try to see the situation through their eyes.

Veteran's Day Special Guest!
For Veteran's Day, 5A, 5D, and 4C had a special guest join them. Cadet First Class D.J(Dylan Jameson). Alexander joined the classes by Google Meet. Mr. Alexander shared about his position at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He told the students about his flying of a TG-16A glider and his instructional pilot experiences as well. Dylan will graduate from the Academy in May. He shared his dreams of a flying career with the Air Force in an A-10 and eventually an F16. The students asked many questions and had a good interaction with him. The 5D students wrote letters to Mr. Alexander's squadron to tell them thank you for their service and create more interaction with them. Dylan also reminded the students to thank any serviceman or woman no matter when or where they see them.
