Trial Dismissal and Bus changes starting April 30, 2018

Parents, we will be trying a new dismissal procedure beginning the week of April 30th. The time your child is picked up in the morning and the time they are dropped off in the evening will not change. Students will still be picked up and dropped off at home on the same bus. We will pilot a single bell dismissal, which means there may be a change in the dismissal bus for some students. Letters were sent home today with those students who will have a change in bus number. Please be sure to go over the change with your child. The reason for the change is to reduce the time students are on the lot at the Junior High, which will increase the time we have with them here at Greene.

If you received a letter indicating your child will be riding a different bus, the homeroom teacher will give him/her a yellow bus tag with the new bus # and the transfer bus # (your child will transfer back to his/her usual bus# at the Junior High). The homeroom teacher will also review where the bus will be parked on the Greene School to insure your child gets on the correct bus.

Sycamore School district receives Music Award

Sycamore Community Schools has received the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education Award for 2018! This is in large part to the support you show our incredible music staff at Sycamore Community Schools and the value you place on music in our district. Thank you for your support!

Our district spends a considerable amount of time working on transition. We will reserve this section of the newsletter for information to help you and your children with this process. For the purpose of clarification, we will use the following terms for each grade level: Rising 7th Graders (current 6th graders, class of 2024), Rising 6th Graders (current 5th graders, class of 2025), and Rising 5th Graders (current 4th graders, class of 2026).

Earth Day 2018

Earth Day is Coming to Greene!

Greene students will celebrate Earth Day this Tuesday with a visit from three avian ambassadors from Raptor Inc., a local organization dedicated to the preservation of birds of prey ( Student council created a survey for the school to vote for the birds they would most like to see, with the top vote-getter receiving a sponsorship. Winners should be announced today!

Students will also be able to make birdfeeder necklaces, and, if they signed up, receive Redbud or Red Oak seedlings to take home and plant. Birdfeeders can be hung up in trees or with existing birdfeeders—anywhere birds like to congregate. Seedlings should be planted as soon as possible, and stored in a cool dark place until then; they can also be planted in pots and transplanted later (instructions will be attached). To request a seedling (or additional seedlings) talk to your student or contact Sarah Newman at

The Eco Team would like to thank Student Council for their outstanding work putting this program together, and the PTO for their whole-hearted support!
