Time to Celebrate

Student projects from the first trimester are finishing up and it is time to celebrate by taking a peek at student accomplishments. There's no better way to spend a cold winter day than sitting under a blanket, wrapped up in a book. Enjoy the student suggestions for some good reads below.

First grade students read a variety of nonfiction and fiction books. They chose a fact from a nonfiction book to illustrate, then used their imagination to create a fiction drawing. Their drawings and voices were recorded using Adobe Spark Video. More fact or fiction projects here.

As part of our Internet Safety lessons, Second grade students use a story board to organize their ideas around a bully or cyberbully story. They then practice the scene and perform it in front of a green screen. A combination of Doink and iMovie are used to create the finished product. More videos are found on the library page here.
Fourth grade students read and reviewed books to share on this library page. They worked in Google Docs on their writing and then copied and pasted their words for Voki characters to speak.
Fifth grade students worked in Google Docs and GoFormative to follow the steps they needed to create a book review for the library blog. They had to link to the author websites and created a bibliography using EasyBib. They are currently responding within the blog to comments and questions posed by other 4th and 5th grade students.

As an educator, we are challenged to constantly evaluate and improve our craft. Responsive Classrooms are one way teachers are making connections with students this year. I have created a webpage within my online library to help gather sources that will add to all of our knowledge in this growth endeavor. In library, students have begun helping me to Catch A Star, as they watch classmates for positive behavior that we reward with Class Dojo points. It is heartwarming to hear students offer up names of others that have helped them, or who they felt were working hard during library.
