a note from your principal
We are doing really well at school. Our COVID numbers are low and we continue to take every precaution possible to keep your children safe and healthy. If you watch the news, you know that the COVID situation is escalating again. Please be assured that our district leadership watches that very closely to determine if any changes need to be made.
Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24, are elearning days. These are school days and your children have required assignments to complete. Teachers will be sending home the elearning assignments by this Monday, November 16th. Having the assignments early will allow your child to complete the work when it is convenient for your family. This work will be due November 30th.
Teachers will also have office hours on the 23rd and 24th should you need to jump on a Google Meet to ask them a question about the assignments.
We had our Leave a Legacy celebrations on Tuesday. I can't thank you enough for your support for this fundraiser and for our school, in general. We are a great school because of you and your children (and our teachers, of course)!
We miss seeing you in the building and I look forward to the day when we can welcome you back in and start to do things that are a little more "normal"! For now, we press on and make sure your children are getting the best education possible. Our teachers are rock stars and I applaud them every day for coming to school and giving 110% in less than optimal teaching and learning conditions. They love your children and will do anything to help them succeed.
Have you seen the 2020 Niche report? Greystone is #2 in the Birmingham area and #11 in the state for Best Public Elementary Schools! That is because of you, our teachers, our city, and most importantly, our students. Way to go!!
Have a wonderful weekend,

The Kids Mercedes Marathon is a HUGE deal in the Greystone P.E. department and school wide as well!! We average around 150 students running in this event each year. Many of them started participating in Kindergarten. Greystone is going to be a participant this year. We will be making a few changes. I have listed the few changes that are necessary for this year's run.
* All runners must register online.
* Runners must keep their own running log and all running for the Kids Marathon will be done at home under parent supervision. Students will not run their required 25.2 miles at school this year.
* Runners may turn in their running log to me or Coach Rand or turn into the Mercedes office. Information regarding this is on their website.
* We will be running the last mile at school and celebrating your victory!
If you would like to register go online to mercedesmarathon.com. Click on races, scroll down to Kids Marathon. The deadline to register is November 15, 2020.
Please let me and Coach Rand know that you are participating in the Kids Marathon. We are still putting our "running tennis shoe" with your name on the wall. We would love to be your biggest cheerleader while you are running your miles from now until you run your last mile on February 20.
Happy Running! Leta Hoit (lhoit@hoover.k12.al.us)

The Alabama Literacy Act has many parent resources for you to access. The linked image above will take you to The Alabama Family Guide for Student Reading Success. This resource is written for families whose child is showing a deficiency in reading, however I believe it is a great resource for all families. If you are looking for some fun activities to do with your K-3rd children to help them become better readers, this is a great place to start.
