Current available groups:
ECHS Connections - Thursdays 2:30-3:30pm
A small group will be designed to create a safe space for students to receive and extend peer support during distance learning, and will be facilitated by Ms. Harper.
Our group will have an opportunity to discuss difficult situations, behaviors, feelings, attitudes, etc. that students may be experiencing. Students will also have the opportunity to learn new skills and behaviors that may help their personal development and adjustment.
Academic Support - Tuesdays 1:45 - 3:45 & Fridays 1-3pm
Academic support and tutoring for students in all subject areas. This group is facilitated by Ms. Allen.
Go With The Flow - TBD
In-person small-group with Mr. Jordan
Focus on personal stress management through mindful breath and movement practice. Give your brain’s thinking capacities a break, and tune in to relaxation. We will quite literally be practicing “going with the flow,” along the lines of basic qigong/tai chi practice by coordinating slow deep breathing with very gentle, slow, and basic movements. We will bypass complex terminology and philosophy and focus on a mindful practice to support the rigors of distance learning and living in a stress-filled world. Our “mindful breath moves” can ultimately be practiced standing, sitting, laying down, or even through the use of your imagination. Anyone can participate regardless of ability or experience. There is also no religious component involved – any participant may silently pray according to their individual faith, or repeat affirmations, mantras, or clear their mind to a Zen-like state while breathing and moving slowly; your internal mind frame is your business. The main point is to be comfortable and relaxed; no one will be pressured to perform any movement. Be assured that the movements practiced in this group will be super basic, along the lines of lifting your hands and arms up and down, and turning side to side. While it sounds easy, the challenge is to coordinate the breath with the movements, and to move in a relaxed yet focused way. The practice lends to an internal mastery of feelings, control, and mindfulness, which can be applied to anything, including the demands of school. If you’d like to try this group out, let us know.
Please email Ms. Shrum, tera.shrum@venturausd.org if you are interested in this small group.
Math support for students that are struggling or need help as they complete Math courses through VC, APEX or ALEKS. This group will be facilitated by Ms. Tapia.
