Hello Bobcats!
Well, things feel like they’re getting back to normal at BMS. First Paws For Fun was a huge success. Big thanks to our PTA/secretary for putting together snack/drinks and some bouncy houses on such short notice. Reminder that all Alg 1 students will take the STAAR test on Tuesday, May 11th. Those students should be on campus no later than 8:00am. Next Friday, May 14th is Asynchronous, so students will not be coming to campus and will complete work for all 7 classes in Schoology. Next week, we will have Paws For Fun on Thursday and once again students can only be marked absent for In-person attendance once @ 10:20 that week in order to participate in Paws. Our students are finishing strong and fewer and fewer students are in grade repair each week. Please check the PSS (Parent Self-Serve) to monitor your student’s grades and help keep them on track. Also, Schlitterbahn opens this weekend, so summer is getting near.
Living The Dream,
Mr. Loyd

-PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT BRINGS THEIR CHARGER TO SCHOOL FOR TESTING AND ALSO CHARGES THEIR COMPUTER THE NIGHT BEFORE
*DEADLINE FOR VIRTUAL STUDENT SURVEY IS 5/14/21
Below you will find a survey link for our parents who have students participating virtually this school year. In order to provide our staff and students with the safest environment during STAAR testing, we need an accurate number of our students who are planning to come to campus to take their STAAR tests. If you are a parent of a virtual student in grades 6-8 attending Barton Middle School, we need the attached survey link completed ASAP. This will assist our administrative team with providing and creating testing groups for all of our STAAR testing.
if you have any questions regarding testing, please contact Mr. Mize our Campus Testing Coordinator.

INCOMING 7TH GRADERS INFORMATION
Attention all parents/guardians of incoming 7th graders for the 2021-2022 school year.
Per Texas law all incoming 7th grade students (applies to virtual and in person students) are required to have the following immunizations or provide an exemption affidavit prior to the start of 7th grade.
- TDAP
- Meningococcal
If your child has already had these vaccines please provide current records to the school nurse. If they have not had these vaccines they will need to receive them prior to the first day of the new school year.
I know the new school year is months away, but I also know how busy things get in the summer. I wanted to send an early notice and encourage you to take care of it as soon as possible. Students will not receive their schedule for the next school year until all vaccine records are received and current.
If you have questions or concerns, or need a copy of current vaccine records please contact me via email at Christi.chabarria@hayscisd.net or phone at 512-268-7287.
Once you have current records you may email, fax or drop them off at the campus.

COVID INFORMATION
The district has made a few changes to our mask policy regarding mask use outdoors.
● Face coverings will continue to be required by staff and students indoors.
● The following exceptions are allowed for removal of the mask:
A staff member is alone in a classroom or office
Students are outside and movement is occurring, i.e.recess, PE class
Persons who are outside and are able to maintain six feet spatial distancing
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Even as we have seen a decline in cases in the area recently, we want to continue to be very vigilant and do our part to keep our Barton community safe and healthy. Please screen your students daily, keep them home if they are not feeling well and notify the school nurse for any outside exposure or positive cases. As a reminder, our mask requirements, as well as all our other covid safety protocols are remaining in place, despite the governors’ new orders.
- If anyone in your home is pending COVID test do not send your children to school and notify the campus nurse.
- If your child has been exposed to COVID keep them home and notify the campus nurse.
Please understand the importance of communication with us during this time. We understand privacy concerns and will only share information on a need to know basis. We want to do our best to keep our students, staff, family members and community safe and healthy. The only way we can do this is by tracking each and every case of potential COVID and confirmed COVID. We are working closely with the local health department and are following guidelines directly from their guidance. Quarantine guidelines can vary depending on each unique situation. We want to give you the correct timeframe for return so that we can keep COVID out of our Barton family as much as possible.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me via email at christi.chabarria@hayscisd.net or phone at 512-268-7287.
Please continue to do your part and screen your child every day prior to sending them to school. If your child is not feeling well please keep them home and let them work virtually. Curative offers free COVID mouth swab testing and results are back usually within 24 hours. If you are having any symptoms it is an easy, quick process that we encourage you to take an advantage of. See below for information on these testing sites.
If your child has any one of the below symptoms, is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 OR has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results, do not send him/her to campus and contact me:
* Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth
* Sore throat
* Congestion or runny nose
* New, uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline.
* Diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, or abdominal pain
* New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
* New loss of taste or smell
* New onset of fatigue or muscle/body aches
Please also do not send your child to school if a household member has tested positive or is awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Campus nurses are your point of contact for all things related to COVID so please reach out if you have questions or concerns.
