A grateful heart...
My heart is grateful for....
....Cyndi, Julia and Brittany who all volunteered for the District Advisory Committee.
....Virginia for organizing the Star Spangled Sing Along.
...Christina and Johnna for allowing 8 visitors from the Induction Academy to visit their rooms yesterday!
...Michael for buying and organizing the tool kit for all of us to use.
....Jon who has been a big in the computer lab, especially with Istation issues.
...Melanie, who is here for duty in the gym by 7:10 every morning. It's so nice to know we have someone there each morning to keep an eye on students!
...Samantha, for planning a letter writing activity for her fifth graders Friday in honor of 9/11. I've reprinted one of them so all of you could read it.
Soldier letter
Dear Member of the Armed Forces,
Today I am sitting at my desk, thinking about how you have given blood, tears and sweat for me. YOU have done something that no one else would have done. You are special. Everyday I think of how hard it would be to serve in the armed forces. Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force, whatever you do, you are amazing. You put in all that you have to keep us safe. You will never back down. If it weren't for you, our country would not be what it is now. I wouldn't be here, my family wouldn't be here, maybe even my neighbor wouldn't be here. Destruction would reign over mankind. We wouldn't have the freedom we have now. On 9-11, 2001 2 planes crashed into the win tower inNew York. That day, many innocent people lot their lives. That day, everything changed. If you are currently serving, whoever you are, where ever you are, I am now saying thank you for your service. I may not know you, but you have touched my heart.

Grossology:
Want to know how long it takes for the food you eat to travel through your body and out the other end? Want to learn how to turn your poop purple with yellow polka dots? Together we'll learn cool and totally gross body fun facts, biological science experiments and how to make yummy, healthy and totally NOT gross snacks to keep you full of energy and growing Gator Strong!
For those of you new to Glenhope, it doesn't have to be this flashy. Other examples are knitting, art, dance, chess, Gator Store, recycling team, duct tape creations, and owl pellets.
Sometimes the craziest things (like Grossology) catch their attention! Part of the marketing is thinking up intriguing names and writing a description that captures their attention.
Goal setting
As we talked, I realized that all our hard work would not amount to much if we don't have some accountability throughout the year, so we've added three days to our calendars in January to check in with everyone about their goals. The dates are the 12,13, and 19th of January. We'll do the same format (30 minutes apiece) and just look at the evidence you've collected so far, talk about any adjustments that need to be made and revise when needed. Just wanted to give you a heads up that we were planning that.
I am compiling a list of each teacher and their two goals and we will determine a way for us to organize that information so that you are aware of others who are working on similar goals. We will use that throughout the year as a way to help us stay focused on our end results.
ADHD video-
This segment discusses self control as a neuro genetic trait (3A). It is almost 13 minutes long, but has great implications for classroom teachers.

How can understanding this aspect of ADHD impact your outlook on certain students in your classroom?
