School's Out for Summer!
You have certainly demonstrated what a community can do in the face of adversity. Your support of your children and our staff was essential during this time. Together, we made history, as we faced the challenges of Distance Learning, and figured out how to help each child succeed. From technology glitches to incorrect links to insufficient connectivity with the Internet, we survived! I am confident that FCPS will be ready for whatever lies ahead. I hope that relaxing and rejuvenating is on the top your "To Do" list now that summer is here and you can disconnect from the routines of school. Enjoy this time with your family and friends to bask in warm weather, break from structured time, and get away to a place of refuge.
Stay tuned!

Read~Read~Read!
"Summer Slide" is a term used to describe the decline in achievement that many children experience during breaks from school. Research shows that the amount of time children spend reading for leisure is directly linked to student achievement. Reading is like playing an instrument ~ practice improves performance! Be sure your child joins the Frederick County Public Library's reading incentive program. Go to www.fcpl.org/summer.
We also encourage your child to continue accessing Lexia through July 31, an adaptive program that develops foundational reading skills. To access Lexia have your child:
- Log in through Clever by going to the FCPS Bookmark (using the Chrome browser) or our TES school's media page and click on the blue and white "C" icon. There is also a direct weblink: https://clever.com/in/fcpsk12.
- Your child should access the Core5 and work independently, as this program is tailored to meet the individual needs of each child.
Don't Slide Behind in Math!
Summer slide is a real thing in both math and reading. For that reason, we hope you'll have your child engage in these summer math learning activities! Your child can access them by going into his/her Schoology site (the platform s/he used during distance learning). Once in Schoology, click on "Groups"; then "My Groups" (in the far right hand corner). Click on "Join a Group". Enter the access code: VZMN-NHBF-RR5ZJ. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Best, our Math Specialist, if you have any questions or concerns. Check out this video tutorial for accessing the page and take a tour of some of the resources: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EpYcGsBvgs33q_ilKQJa8_90evLzfZRL/view
Practice will help to prevent your child from sliding behind in math!
