FIGHT
If you become trapped in a building during an active shooter situation, hiding does not prevent you from putting up a fight later.
If you are confronted by the shooter, you have to assume that your actions are all that stand between yourself, your colleagues and grave harm. Whatever decision you make whether to run, hide or fight make sure to commit to your decision and to continuously re-evaluate the situation.
· Fight for your life.
· Search around you for sharp objects you can use to disable the attacker.
· Collaborate with people around you to ensure you’re not working alone.
· Do not hold back and do not stop until you know beyond certainty that the situation you are safe.
The Difference between LOCKOUT and LOCKDOWN
School LOCKOUTS are intended to protect students from danger or threats located outside the building, and as a result, schools may go into a lockout or secure-perimeter scenario if there are crimes in or around the campus. By requiring children to stay inside the building and to create a secure perimeter, lockouts can help local law enforcement as they seek suspects. Additionally, they allow the educational day to continue uninterrupted and with little to no student knowledge of events that are occurring.
A LOCKDOWN is used to protect students from danger inside their school. These require teachers to lock doors, turn out lights, and instruct students to hide in silence. LOCKDOWN scenarios should not be common, and when used, well-trained teachers can help students practice the process without invoking terror.

ENLIGHTENING
US fire departments respond to an average of 22,600 fires per year started by lighting. Texas ranks second on the list when it comes to the number of homeowners insurance lighting losses. More and more property owners are becoming educated on the hazards of lighting and need to protect there property. Below is a breif overview of the componets that typically make up a lighting protection system.
Surge Suppressors - surge suppression is installed at the elecrical panels to prevent the entrance of over-voltages which can cause a fire.
Surge Arresters - arresters installed at the electrical panels help protect heavy appliances and prevent fires at the service panel entrance.
Tree protection - it is recommended that any tree taller than the structure or within 10 feet of a structure be equipped with a lighting protection system. An unproteccted tree in close proximity to a structure can create a side flash hazard. The tree can also come crashing down on the structure.
Keep in mind that a single bolt of lightning can carry over 30 million volts of electricty. It is no wonder why lightning can rip through roofs, explode brick and concrete and ignite fires. In the event of a lighting, storm do the best to protect yourself by staying inside.
