Celebrating 2/22/2022 Around the District
Tutus abounded around KPS on Feb. 22, 2022 as schools celebrated Twosday 2/22/2022. Woods Lake Elementary went all out with a mini dance party at 2:22 p.m. Plus, prize drawings were held at 22 minutes past the hour each hour during the school day.

Join KPS in a Community Mental Health Needs Assessment
Kalamazoo Public Schools is partnering with Integrated Services of Kalamazoo (formerly known as Community Mental Health) to hold a free presentation looking at the mental health needs in Kalamazoo, as well as the gaps the area faces in terms of mental health resources. The discussion is a service to community members, who are interested in learning more about collaborative efforts to expand mental health resources and needs in the community.

Feb. 22 was also National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day

Loy Norrix Tours Heading to Italy, France
The Loy Norrix Travel Club has planned two international trips this summer. The club will travel to Italy from June 20 to June 29 and to England and France from Aug. 5 to Aug. 15. Students can earn three college credits and teachers an earn CEUs for the trips.
The trip to Italy will visit sites in Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii, and Rome and will be lead by Anne Bowser-Lewis and Dyami Hernandez. The trip costs $4,713. The London/Loire ValleyParis trip is $5,226 and will be lead by Cindy VanLieu. Scholarships are available.
To register for either trip go to www.educationaltravel.com/register . The trip ID for Italy is Hernandez-2021. The trip ID for London/Loire Valley/Paris is LoyNorrix-2022. Both trips have slots available.
Prices include round-trip airfare, ground travel, health insurance, travel insurance, hotels, two meals a day, tickets, experiential learning, and tour guides.

Champion Chili!
Congratulations to KPS Food Service chef Samuel Dunn and dietician Kirsten Strong for winning the People’s Choice Award at the annual Downtown Kalamazoo Chili Cook-Off on Saturday! Thank you to The Spirit of Kalamazoo for hosting the KPS team and their award winning entry!
Phoenix High School Principal Mark Hill served as one of the celebrity judges for the free event, which was hosted by the the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership. Guests sampled about 20 different chilis, while enjoying entertainment from a DJ set up outside the State Theatre.
'She Kills Monsters' Opens Tonight at KC
"She Kills Monsters," written by Qui Nguyen, begins a three-night run at Kalamazoo Central High School tonight.
After the death of her sister, high schooler Agnes enters a Dungeons & Dragons game as a way to get to connect with her sibling, who was an active gamer. Agnes learns about her sister's loves and strengths through the game.
The show plays at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25-26 and 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at the KC Auditorium. Tickets are $7 adults, $5 students. Masks are required. Social distancing will be available. Black History Month Soul Food Celebrations
Last week, KPS Food Service helped students celebrate Black History Month with a special soul food lunch. All students got to sample cornbread, green beans, and fried chicken. At Phoenix High School students also had servings of ribs, and Principal Mark Hill added sweet potato pie to the menu.
