Update on State Testing

In response to school closures and unfinished learning/learning loss related to the global pandemic, the William S. Hart Union High School District has determined the annual CAASPP assessment tests will not be administered this spring.

Due to the fact that almost half of Hart District students are currently using distance learning for all of their instruction, and all distance learners are using devices that are not District managed, the District has determined that administering the CAASPP assessments is “not a viable” option. Therefore, 7th, 8th and 11th grade Hart District students will not be administered the English language arts, mathematics and science state assessments.

The California Department of Education and the State Board of Education, in agreement with the US Department of Education, have given districts the ability to choose a local assessment if it is determined that the state CAASPP assessments are “not viable to administer.”

Therefore, all students in grades 7 through 11 will be administered a brief diagnostic assessment in English language arts and mathematics in order to gather important student performance data for future planning. This information will be sent home to parents. This online assessment will be administered in May.
