Academic Council Update

May 2016

New Butler Online Team Member

Butler Online recently hired Brandy Diltz as our new Instructional Technology Specialist. Brandy comes to us from Derby Middle School where she will finish out the school year before beginning her new position here at Butler in June. Please join us in welcoming Brandy.

Canvas/SALSA Update

All Fall 2016 Canvas shells have been released to assigned instructors. Instructors can now update the course content in preparation of the fall semester (summer shells were released a few weeks ago).

Please note that instructors do not have access to update courses in Canvas until they have been assigned in Banner. We have had inquiries from some instructors as to why they cannot see their fall shells.

The slight changes to the syllabus template for fall are automatically being updated in all syllabi via SALSA. The new SALSA linking process is functioning smoothly and instructors have expressed appreciation for the change/upgrade.

iBOT Training in Anticipation of Increased High School Enrollment

With the anticipated influx of high-school students we may need to train additional instructors to teach online courses. Although iBOT is now available on-demand, we have found that most instructors prefer to take the course with a cohort. The summer iBOT is scheduled for May 31-July 18. Registration for this session must close on May 25th since the Memorial Day weekend falls right before the course begins. Please be sure that instructors get registered.

Instructors can register for iBOT at http://goo.gl/forms/L0ZRVwyiI8. In order to complete the registration I must have an email from you, the dean, to verify permission to take iBOT.

Of course, new face-to-face instructors will need to complete Canvas Essentials. We add new instructors to the course as soon as we receive the notification of their hire from HR.
