- A Note from the President -
Hello All!
I cannot believe that I am writing my first newsletter entry as your new President! It is humbling to be trusted by this amazing group of theatre educators to lead TxETA onto the next phase of its journey. I must take a moment to say thank you to Perry Crafton for his steady hand and calm leadership through very difficult times as he navigated the many challenges of leading a non-profit organization during a pandemic. Most of his work remained unseen by our membership but his diligence and the work of amazing Board members have kept TxETA financially healthy and ready to re-engage in our primary purpose of supporting theatre educators in their endeavors across the state. Thank you Perry for all you do and continue to do for TxETA!
I also need to again thank those Board members completing their service to TxETA. Missey Head completed her six-year commitment to TxETA, and her vision has helped to solidify systems and procedures that have put TxETA on a much firmer foundation. Pam Wilson returned to her position of Treasurer at a time when she was sorely needed, and her attention to detail was instrumental in efficient management of our finances. Roshunda Jones-Koumba, yes that Tony-Award winning phenomenon, has been a positive and collaborative voice in our Board process as K-12 Member at Large. Cheryl Painter stepped into her Board role unexpectedly early and rose to the occasion to mount two tremendously successful SummerFest events. Thanks so much to Missey, Pam, Roshunda, and Cheryl for all their hard-work and dedication to TxETA and its members.
In other Board news, Rebecca Worely has returned to her previous position as Higher Ed Chair to fulfill the remaining year of Gary Cooper’s term, who resigned due to a position change. Thanks so much Becca for stepping in to serve again! I want to welcome new Board members Erin Moore, Adrian Gallardo, Julio Morales, and Magda Mirelez. I also want to welcome Jill Ludington, our new Communications Director, to the team! These are all great new additions to the group, and they are hitting the ground running.
As I start my term, I am excited to have the opportunity to work on your behalf to move TxETA forward and launch several new initiatives that your Board has been working to bring to you. These include a Regional Workshop in January, our Mini-Conference in May, and the Awards of Distinction Program. We will be sharing more about all these amazing programs as details become finalized. Do not forget to check out the information in this newsletter regarding the Summer Immersion Greece Trip for the most enjoyable way to earn CPE credits…through travel!!
Again, I am honored to serve as your President. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have suggestions or ideas for TxETA.
We are here for YOU!!
Travis
