Fresh Harvest Event - Free 1st Organic Produce Basket - New signups only
Over the last year, we've partnered with Fresh Harvest to bring fresh, local produce into our community. They help us fill the gap to provide the co-op market with items our current growers and vendors don't currently have. With 2019 in full swing, David (a member of the FH team) will be joining us at our pick up location next Wednesday, February 6th, 1pm to 6pm to meet you & share a bit about their service. They are offering a FREE 1st basket to try them out. If you have friends or family that have been wanting to check out our market and Fresh Harvest this is a great time to have them stop by.
Fresh Harvest provides home delivery of locally-grown, organic produce throughout Greater Atlanta. There are several basket types to choose from and you can add other local groceries like meat, milk, and eggs. Customers that pick up at Suwanee Whole Life Co-op receive 15% off every basket! FYI, we are the only co-op that gets 15% off, everyone else gets 10%...
If you can't make it out to the event, check out their website & "The Details" section below for more information.
For those that sign up online or at the event, David would love to welcome you with:
1.) A free first basket! *offer ends 2/6
2.) A free FH garden tour for SWLC members
If you already get a Fresh Harvest basket, please stop by and say a quick hello to David. I'm sure he would love to hear about your experience!
NEW GROWER: Appalachia Mushrooms
From Boo Hansen:
I started my growing experience with a small greenhouse in Atlanta and became one of the largest greenhouse operations in the Southeast. I sold annuals and perennials to Home Depot, Whole Foods, over 100 garden centers, landscape companies in Atlanta while running a retail operation at one of my wholesale operations. In early 2000, I became interested in growing organically and started to transition the operation from flowers to vegetables. In 2009, I closed my operation. I have been helping build another CNG operation growing vegetables and cut flowers.
In 2017, I saw that there was an opportunity in the marketplace for gourmet mushrooms, especially in Farmers Markets. I started production last April and have been pleased with the response. I have a very high quality standard for my production. Although I don’t sell to restaurants, I have had some of Atlanta’s top chefs purchase from me at the Peachtree Road market.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I plan on passing alone recipes and other helpful info to our customers to help them understand the incredible world of mushrooms!
Grass Fed Collage/Gelatin
My husband and I use collagen to help with joint issues and works great! Easy to use!
Soy Free Chicken
I'm not sure if everyone realizes just how lucky we are to have Bill & Ruth Hayden from Back In Time farm on the market. It's pretty much impossible to find local, pasture raised, soy free chicken meat and trust me I've searched. We are blessed to have access to it right here on our market!
I get asked all the time - what's the difference between chicken in the grocery store and what's on our market? The major differences are how the chickens are raised and what the chickens are fed.
Back In Time's Soy Free, Certified Naturally Grown chickens are raised in Barrow county on their family farm. They eat organic feed supplemented with locally grown organic wheat and locally grown organic corn and drink from their reclaimed rain water catchment system. Their chickens are happy and healthy because they live outside in bottomless portable chicken tractors that are moved everyday to fresh grass and bugs. These birds are never given antibiotics, growth hormones, or chlorine from a city water system. Processing happens at a USDA approved facility that is also an Animal Welfare approved and Certified Humane treatment facility in South Carolina. Leading research scientists at a major university have tested their chickens and found them to be 100% soy free.
Did you know that a scientific study published in 2017 looked at the effects of feeding commercial chicken feed, conventional chicken meat or organic chicken meat to groups of female animal subjects? To evaluate the effects, researchers took measurements of the subjects’ percent growth rate and cholesterol levels as well as their progesterone, testosterone and estrogen levels.
The study showed that consuming commercial feed and commercial chicken meat resulted in increases in growth, increases in cholesterol levels and an imbalance in hormone levels. Overall, the study concludes that “commercial chicken feed and commercial chicken meat may be the potential cause of development of polycystic ovary syndrome in females due to steroid hormonal imbalance.”
Here's a link to a fact checked article recently published. Very interesting! https://draxe.com/free-range-chicken/
Lastly, Bill wanted you all to know that he will have more whole chickens in May. He sold out quickly this month. It's bone broth season! If you need bone broth Bill has some listed too!
