Hawk Room
We have encouraged students to touch base with their teachers if they feel that this is a place that would benefit their learning.
Students can work in the Hawk Room for one period at a time. If they are requesting longer times to work in there, phone calls will be made home to ensure that parents/guardians are aware.
If you have any questions about our Hawk Room please do not hesitate to reach out to our counsellor, Mrs. Knott.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30, 2022
Prior to National Truth and Reconciliation Day, our Mental Health Capacity Builder, Asma Ammouneh, has organized lunch hour activities with students to increase our knowledge of indigenous people and the land we reside on. September 20-22 there will be three different activities to support connection to land, respect, and indigenous teachings.

First Chapter Friday
This week’s feature is The Second Chance of Benjamin Waterfalls, written by James Bird. Benjamin Waterfalls comes from a broken home, and the quickest fix he’s found for his life is to fill that emptiness with stuff he steals and then sells. But he’s been caught one too many times, and when he appears before a tough judge, his mother proposes sending him to “boot camp” at the Ojibwe reservation where they used to live. Except the “boot camp” is not what he expects, and his rehabilitation seems to be in the hands of the tribal leader’s daughter, who wears a mask. Why? Finding the answer to this and so many other questions prove tougher than any military-style boot camp. Will answers be enough for Benny to turn his life around and embrace his second chance? Stop by the see Mrs. Majeran or Mrs. Getschel to check a copy out.
UPDATE YOUR POWERSCHOOL INFORMATION
The EIPS Correction and Verification Form is now available online through your PowerSchool Parent Portal. Use the form to access and update your child’s records information—including address, parent and guardian information, emergency contacts and medical information. Reviewing the form and submitting updates ensures the school has the most up-to-date information regarding your child.
When reviewing the form, pay close attention to all listed phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contact information. Also, if you recently moved, now is the time to ensure the Division has your updated address. Throughout the year, the Division and school uses the listed information to communicate with families about important information, including updates, the latest news and event.
EIPS Correction Verification Form
Review and update the form by Sept. 22, 2022.
For more information about the PowerSchool Correction and Verification Form, contact the school office at 780-922-2228.

Library Fundraising – Indigo Love of Reading Foundation
We are happy to announce that F.R. Haythorne Junior High School has been selected for Indigo’s Love of Reading Foundation fundraising program. Our campaign will be active from September 12th until October 2nd. To make a donation to our library, you can visit this site, or if you are in Red Deer, you can donate in-store (they can be found at 5250 - 22nd Street). Our school will receive every dollar raised during these three weeks and will receive a 30% discount off books when shopping at Indigo, Chapters and Coles using fundraiser donations. Through the Adopt a School fundraiser, we are hoping to raise enough money to put one new book into the hands of each and every one of our students!
Lost/Missing Textbooks and Library Materials
Did you happen to find a textbook while cleaning out your room this summer? Did you discover the library book you checked out last year when opening up your backpack on the first day of school? If so, please bring them to the library so we can check them in for you before you are assessed a fine for missing materials.

PAY SCHOOL FEES ONLINE!
School fee information for the 2022-23 school year will be posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal in late September. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay online using a credit card.
Don’t forget to log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of certain school activities such as field trips, class projects, athletic-team fees and more. Additionally, junior high fees can change as option courses are added and deleted.
If you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have certain fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2022.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines visit eips.ca. Alternatively, contact Mrs. Bidniak our Business Manager.
