Revved Up Student Workshop
A school messenger was sent regarding SB401 and our upcoming workshop for students.
Reminder: In order to meet the requirements of SB401/Erin’s Law for 2018-2019, Fulton county Schools has contracted with Revved Up Kids www.revvedupkids.org to provide a personal safety/self-defense training program to help your student begin to understand how to respond to dangerous situations and people.
We have scheduled Revved Up Kids for Tuesday, March 12. We are going to host sessions during Connections classes.
The statistics regarding violence against children are staggering; in the United States authorities receive a report of child abuse every 10 seconds and 1/3 of those reports include physical or sexual abuse. Every three days in this country, a child is abducted by a stranger. Before turning 18, more than 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused (median age of the victim is 9 years old), and more than 90% of the time they will know their abuser. Victims are boys and girls. Since 2010, Revved Up Kids has trained more than 15,000 children and teens to protect themselves against violence of every type by providing them with information and skills to help them stay safer.
The training at Webb Bridge will take place on January 22 and 23, and we will provide a follow up resource to aid you in discussing the training with your child. The goals of the workshop are as follows:
• Teach the participants how predators select, approach, and groom their victims.
• Provide the participants with action steps they can take to reduce their risk of being targeted in their real worlds and their online worlds.
• Teach the participants how to use voice, body language and awareness skills to stay safer.
• Teach simple defensive tactics that can help participants escape an attack situation.
This program is taught in an age appropriate way that is empowering and informative. It should be noted that we will discuss sexual abuse, sexual violence and exploitation during the training. If you do not want your child to participate in the workshop, please print, sign, and return the form attached below to your student’s first Connections teacher by March 12.March 29

MLK Humanitarian Awards Assembly
The CMS Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award was a special and unique assembly that was powerful for our students. Dr. George Weathers, former CMS assistant principal and current elementary principal gave a motivating speech on kindness and our impact on others. Thank you to our partner, CMS PTA. We honored three recipients with the Humanitarian Award. Congratulations to these individuals for their service toward others - Linda Porter (staff), Leilani Lee (student) and Tran Smith (community member).

Applying to Private School?
Each year, we have several families apply to area private schools. Please abide by the following guidelines for transcript and recommendation requests:
- Requests should be made at least 10 business days in advance of the due date. We cannot guarantee on-time arrival of documents unless this amount of time is given.
- Please provide documents pre-filled with student/parent information and signatures according to application directions. We cannot complete documentation unless all required information by the applicant is filled out.
- Please provide the appropriate number of addressed and stamped envelopes. Transcripts require a 9 x 12 envelope with approximately $2.00 in postage.
- All recommendations by school staff are confidential. We will not return copies of these documents to the student or parent. All confidential documentation will be sent to the school according to application directions. If the school requires an online application, CMS has no way of monitoring the completion or timely arrival of the application.
- Please sign the attached RELEASE of INFORMATION form allowing CMS staff to share information with the private school.
We appreciate your understanding of the above guidelines. We process several applications each year which requires that we have a process in place to honor requests in a timely manner.
If you have questions about student records, please contact the counseling office at 470-254-8332.
