Lead Learner Highlights

This week, I would like to share with you two examples of how KP students shine! Several 8th grade students represented KP at the National Regional Education Conference in Sturbridge, MA teaching social studies teachers about various technology tools while experiencing a professional conference. On Wednesday night, our West Hartford middle school students performed beautifully at Midfest.

We have a hardworking KP community and we wish you a restful vacation week ahead.

WEB - Calling all 7th graders - Extended deadline - New due date: April 20!

Applications have been rolling in, but we still need more! If this is the first time you are hearing about it, WEB ("Where Everybody Belongs") is a transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Members of the 8th grade class are trained to act as positive role models, motivators, leaders and teachers who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful in middle school. 6th grade students will experience an exciting orientation prior to the start of school, and will meet with their assigned WEB leader(s) throughout the year.

Does your child want to try on the word LEADERSHIP and become a WEB leader? The WEB application can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GGPVSye4OgRUWZttZrYZG1H0xdO4HxneUQJirZMpwB8/edit?usp=sharing. Applications are due on Wednesday, April 20!

Lost and Found Items

There are two areas in the building where we store lost and found items. There is a bin in the small cafeteria and two rolling bins in front of the 7th and 8th grade gym on the ground level. We inform students to look through these areas for lost or forgotten items. To maintain a clean and organized school space, we will start to donate unclaimed items on the first of every month. If your child has lost or forgotten an item at school, please encourage your child to look in these areas. Additionally, parents/guardians/caregivers are welcome to come and look for your child's lost items during after-school hours .

Over break the office is open 8am-3pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. After the break, after-school hours are from 3-6pm, Mondays through Fridays.

International Night - Donations Needed!

On Friday, May 6, King Philip Middle School will be hosting this year's International Night to celebrate KP's cultural diversity! Last year, we had over 200 people attend this event, and this year, we hope it will be more. Students will be receiving permission slips for this incredible event in their morning advisories this coming Tuesday. Please be on the lookout for it, and please make sure to get those permission slips signed and turned in.

We have an amazing committee of teachers helping to organize this event, but we are always more than happy to accept donations such as: paper plates, plastic silverware, plastic cups, napkins, serving utensils, streamers, balloons, and water. Please deliver any donations to Marisa Tamayo. Any questions, you can contact her at marisa_tamayo@whps.org. Thank you in advance for everyone's support!

We Want to Get in Touch with the Best Teacher You Know

During Teacher Appreciation Week on May 2-6, the U.S. Department of Education wants to say thank you to some great teachers. Recommend a friend, a colleague, your child’s teacher, or a teacher who inspired you! Tell us about a teacher you want to highlight along with a few details about why they are great and how we can reach them. We hope to directly contact each nominee but cannot guarantee that we will be in touch during that week. We may also use this information for additional teacher highlighting purposes throughout the year.
