DeSales Catholic School Teacher Request Policy
Student placement is taken very seriously and is initiated according to a process involving teacher input, time and careful thought concerning the best interest of every child in each classroom.
Improving student achievement and forming well-balanced classes across the grade-level is our primary focus, as such, teacher requests will only be considered on a rare exception basis and only if accompanied by a written request letter.
These exceptions will have the following criteria:
- The student or parent has specific concerns about a particular teacher
- Parents of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) may submit having their children in the same class
- Issues relating to medical need or physical impairment
- Issues relating to learning disabilities
- Emotional issues
- Peer relationships
Parent written student placement letter must include all of the following:
- Valid academic concerns
- Social/emotional needs of the student
- Personality/motivational concerns
- Requests must be based on specific teacher traits
- Must be submitted to the principal by June 30 of each year
Although parent requests will be taken into consideration for student placement it does not guarantee placement of the student into a particular class or teacher. The principal will make final class placement of a student.

Diocesan Science Fair
The Diocese of Buffalo Science Fair is an event where science comes alive, thanks to the ideas and research of students!
This year’ s fair will be held on Saturday, March 11 th at St. Andrews Country Day School from 8:30 am to 1 pm. This event is open to all students in grades K-8.
If your child wants to participate, he/she needs to:
● Develop a project (investigation) in an area (Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, or Engineering) that he/she chooses and completes a scientific experiment.
The website www.sciencebuddies.org is a fantastic place to start because you can take a quiz that will find project ideas for your child based on his/her interests.
If your child is interested in being an active part of this year’ s Science Fair, please register. More information and resources regarding the Science Fair can be found by scanning the QR code.
Fighting for Catholic Schools Funding
NYS is now in the process of working on the budget that will affect our Catholic Schools. Please click the Action Alert link below about funding for our Catholic Schools and consider sending an email to your legislators. The email is prewritten and should only take a minute or two to send after you enter your home address.
https://www.votervoice.net/NYSCATHOLIC/campaigns/101663/respond
The prewritten email mentions the importance of funding Mandated Services Aid (MSA), ensuring Mandated Services reimburses our school for “actual costs” instead of only what is budgeted for reimbursement, increasing funding for elementary AIS, increasing the funds available for instructional materials (textbooks, hardware, software, and library loans), and increasing Non-Public Safety Equipment (NPSE) and STEM (MST Grant) funds.
