Varanasi is sacred to Hindus. One of the reasons is that it is located on the Ganges River which is believed to wash away your sins if you bathe in the river. In Varanasi there are more than 50,000 Brahmins that live there. Most Hindus come here right before they die and when they die here, they get cremated, so their ashes go in the Ganges River. Hindus make up most of the population in Varanasi.
