Term 3 2020 - Wednesday 22 July
Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From our Principal
Kia ora koutou,
Mātai ki te rangi, tēra ko Puanga to te tohu mo te tau hou. Nau mai haere mai nga whanau o Puketapu. Welcome back to Term 3. I love the fact that this feels like our new year, our Maori new year This week is an opportunity to reconnect, reflect, recalibrate and refocus for the remaining of the year. As a school we will reflect on our school values, our learning team guiding documents, our class treaties and see where we are now and how to move forward. As a whanau look at some New Year's resolutions and reset goals as a whanau for the remaining two terms. We have 46 days in Term 3 and 46 in Term 4 before we complete our unprecedented 2020.
Te Ahu o Te Reo Taranaki
Nga mihi nui ki a kaiako koutou. A huge mihi to the group of staff that have shown amazing commitment to learning Te Reo over the past months. There have been teachers coming into school early or staying up late at night to learn Te Reo for our learners. The aim of Te Ahu o te Reo Māori is to grow and strengthen an education workforce that can integrate te reo Māori into the learning of all ākonga and students in Aotearoa New Zealand by 2025. I am hugely proud of all of the mahi our ropu of teachers have put in.
KIA KAHA - KIA MĀIA - KIA MANAWANUI
Matua Ngatai
From our Whanau Leaders
Kia ora, We would like to welcome you back to term 3 of school. My name is Maui and I’m the Kiwi Whanau leader.
My name is Nathan and I am the Piwakawaka whanau leader.
We hope you guys had a really great holiday and your first week back at school has been phenomenal.
This week school sports starts back.
In week 5 Kauri will have interschool sports. Kowhai starts their interschool sports exchanges next week. So now is the time to start getting ready for the season.
Our top tip for the people playing sports is: get your gear ready the night before. Good luck and have fun.
Have you booked yet?
Learning & Wellbeing Conferences
These are next week after school on Thursday 30 July and all day on Friday 31 July and are for all students, except the newest of our new entrants.
Bookings are made online through School Interviews. (Event code is jbpqc)
Book a time to meet with your child's Kaitiaki or Homeroom Teacher and if you would also like to meet with any specialist teacher (eg, Design Technology (Mrs Wigley), Maths (Mrs Paterson) or Literacy (Mrs Den-McKay) Specialist teacher) you can book a time to meet with them on the same day.)
Our Teachers will meet with you and your child to share and reflect on their learning, wellbeing, progress, achievements and goals you have for your child for the rest of this school year.
Don't forget: The Friday will not be a normal school day - only those with conferences attend, and you only come for your conference, then go home again.
Hero - Parent Portal
At Puketapu School our aim is to implement a robust system that allows teachers, parents, and students to access learning in an online environment that is secure, easy, and effective.
HERO allows teachers and students to share learning anytime, anywhere and this can be viewed on any device.
Wow! More Great Jackets!
Wanted for our garden...
Our gardener Annsuli is on the hunt for one of those large green silage bales... but an old one that has been damaged or ripped. It makes great mulch once it is too old for stock feed.
Can you help?
Is there a local farmer who might take our green waste?
When we start doing the BMX track planting there will be loads of grass coming out to make way for plants so be good to have somewhere to take it - if we have to put it in our skip it costs us and isn't great for landfill. If you can help, please let us know.
Puketapu School Cross Country Fun Run & Walk
Whanau and supporters welcome!
Turning 5 soon?
Now that we have an enrolment zone, we have to do this even earlier! So we are asking for your help:
If you have a pre-schooler turning 5 in 2020 or 2021, please use the online enrolment form to make sure they are pre-enrolled. This is particularly important if you live out of zone and have a younger child you wish to start at Puketapu School.
Winter Sports
Have fun everyone and remember our school values on and off the court - Kia kaha, Kia maia, Kia manawanui!

Little Theatre Presents...
New Plymouth LittleTheatre are putting on their postponed show
August 5-15 at Little Theatre in Aubrey Street.
Set in the 1920's Enchanted April by Matthew Barber is a community theatre production by special arrangement with Josef Weiberger Ltd and Play Bureau
Feeling lost in the shadows of marriage and forgotten in the rush of 1920s post-war society, two London housewives pool their savings to rent a villa in Italy for a ladies-only holiday away, reluctantly recruiting a pair of difficult upper-class women to share the cost and the experience. Together under the Mediterranean sun, the four women clash — and then begin to bond and bloom — until men once again upset the balance
