Welcome to our Math and Science Newsletter for 3rd Grade. We hope that this newsletter will keep you informed on the concepts we are learning.

Unit 1 Multiplication Strategies

Overview

Multiplication is a main focus in third grade. Our first unit focuses on developing an understanding of multiplication and how it relates to addition. We want to build a strong foundation of not only learning multiplication facts but ways to interpret multiplication in real-world situations. We will revisit multiplication after winter break striving for mastery of the facts. The video below explains the strategies that we are using in this unit.

Math Websites

Imagine Math

  • 2-3 lessons per week
  • Online math tutoring program that adapts to your student's level of math fluency
  • STAAR like questions
  • Overall goal: 30 lessons by the end of the school year.
  • Parents do not help with Pre-Quiz or Post-Quiz questions. This will help the program establish the lessons needed.

Science

Our first unit of science explores matter. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. The students will learn to measure, test and record physical properties of matter including temperature, mass , magnetism and the ability to sink or float. We will explore the states of matter: solid, liquid and gas and discover how matter is changed when heated or cooled. And finally we will explore how mixtures can be separated.
