The Riverwalk Roar
January 20, 2020
Note from Dr. Compton
Pride,
Happy Monday to each of you. I hope each of your families had a wonderful weekend and that you used today as a reason to talk to your child about Martin Luther King, Jr. It's amazing to think of all that he accomplished in his 39 years of life. Most are familiar with his "I have a dream" speech and it's something each of us often quote. Our second-grade team had their students finish the sentence, "I had a dream that . . . "
However, how many of you have actually heard the complete speech? It's 17 minutes and it completely changes your thoughts on the speech. It will make the already powerful speech, 10 times more impactful. You can watch the complete speech here.
These a quote from Dr. King that resonates with me. He said, "Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” I believe this to be a true statement. Everyone has the ability to serve. Everyone has the ability to pay it forward. As adults (parents, teachers, community members), how do you model this for our young children?
Pride, this week, let's focus on serving others. Let's find ways to make someone's day brighter and paying it forward.
Sincerely,
~Dr. Compton

Congratulations Landon Cabe: December Middle School Student of the Month
Each month, one middle school student is selected. Students are nominated by their teachers based on their academic performance, character, behavior, attendance, and distinction!
Academic Performance
Landon always performs at a high level, with full participation.
Character
Landon is a natural-born leader who does not need to speak much about his abilities. He lets his actions do the talking. In addition, he takes it upon himself to assist in class setup and teardown and lead class stretches. His PE is exemplary because of these qualities. What a great student!
Behavior
Landon speaks when spoken to and displays respect inside and out of the classroom. A true gentleman with a bright future.
Attendance
Landon is on time to class each day, sitting down ready to go!
Distinction
I have seen Landon take initiative in other classes. For example, I have seen Landon assisting Mr. Ogburn in agriculture and assisting with taking care of our grounds. A great helper who is eager to make a difference and seek leadership and guidance through our great teachers!
Additional Comments
Landon is my pick hands down for student of the month for December. He goes above and beyond daily in all areas. Great work Landon!
Spring Sports Information Session
There will be another spring sports information session for any 7th - 10th grader interested in track or boys golf. The meeting is on January 23, 2020, at 3:30 pm.
