Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Hoffman was one of 6 incredible nominees and was selected by her peers as our Teacher of the Year.
From a colleague: Amy goes above and beyond to help others whether that be her students, her co-teachers, her mentees, or anyone else, really. She works so hard to make her classroom an inviting, fun, loving, and engaging place to learn. She is always giving others different learning materials to help their students and letting people borrow her things without question or hesitation. I know I can’t thank her enough for all she’s done and taught me these last few months, so I can’t imagine how others feel that have had the wonderful opportunity of being around her in her 17 years of teaching.
Please join us in celebrating the amazing Mrs. Hoffman!
Winter Parties Information
Our Winter Class Parties will take place on Tuesday, December 20, from 10-11am. Parent volunteers who are assisting with setup and/or planning parties may enter the building at 9:30am. Our classes will be in the gym for Winter Sing-Along. The Winter Sing-Along is not an open event and will be for LVE students and staff only.
We will utilize the playground parking lot for overflow parking, as we did for the Fall Parties. We ask that anyone who is joining us for parties leave campus promptly once parties end so as to clear the parking lot and playground quickly. This allows us to resume recesses in a timely manner. We will share a parking map in the coming weeks to assist with this process.
We also ask that if you are bringing food or snacks or items to pass out, please keep in mind that many students in our building have a variety of food-based allergies.
If you elect to bring your child home after the party, you may do so. Please sign them out with your child's teacher. As we are required to calculate attendance accurately this will count against their attendance total for the year.
We look forward to a great event!

Cold and Flu Season is Here!
Dear Parent or Guardian:
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
- Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
- Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
- Headache
- Stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
- Fever (greater than 100 degrees and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
- Vomiting (even once)
- Diarrhea
- Chills
- General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
- Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
- Wash hands frequently
- Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
- Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to bring to school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
As a school, we have our custodians and the night time cleaners disinfect surfaces, door knobs, and banisters on a daily basis. We are also ensuring that there is soap and hand sanitizer in all dispensers and encouraging everyone to remind students about the importance of hand washing. Please also take the time to click on the links below for flu guides for parents from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.

District Cold Temperature/Wind Chill Advisory Guidelines
From the Office of the Superintendent:
"Extremely cold weather can be very dangerous. Parents and guardians should be certain that their children are appropriately clothed with mittens, hats, coats, etc., so they can be comfortable both inside and outside. Most days your student is going outside for some period of time either at recess or traveling to/from school.
The District follows these procedures for cold temperatures and/or wind chill advisories:
Cold Temperature/Wind Chill Advisory Guidelines
Temperature/wind chill under 15 degrees: All activities must be held indoors
Temperature/wind chill is 15-20 degrees: Outdoor activity is limited to 10 minutes
Temperature/wind chill is 20 degrees or higher: Outdoor activity is limited to 20 minutes
Temperature/wind chill is above 32 degrees: Activities can be held without restrictions"
Inclement Weather Communication
Timely communication with our District families is always a priority, but especially important in inclement weather/ emergency school closing situations. Please be sure to notify your school office about any change in your personal contact information. Visit the WSD website for information on District practices during inclement weather/school closings.
