SHS Takes First Place in Academic Team Super Bowl
The Scottsburg High School Academic Team placed first overall at this year’s Indiana Academic Team Super Bowl Invitational at New Albany High School. In addition to the overall win, the SHS English and Science teams placed first out of 15 teams competing.
“To win overall requires us not to be good in one area but to have every team competing at a high level. Even our teams that didn’t come in first competed hard and provided good scores allowing us the overall victory,” said Robert Deirth, SHS academic team coordinator and science team coach.
The science team only missed two of 25 questions to earn the first place standing.
“It was quite remarkable,” Deirth said of his team’s score.
The SHS Academic Team will prepare for its next competition on April 17 at the Indiana Academic Team Super Bowl Area Competition held at Austin High School. The area competition is the qualifying contest for the state finals in May.
“I’m proud of my team this year,” said Shawna Slaton, SHS English team coach. “We have plans over Spring Break to make preparations for Austin.”
The English team members are Trevor Cox, Jaiden Herald, Jena Livesay, and Anne Noble, who is the team captain. The Science team members are Taylor Stewart, Eliza Mount, Isaak Mount, who is the team captain, Logan Weilbaker, and Ryan Howser.
