Counseling Corner and Social-Emotional Resources
Thank you for all the responses to our survey about your child’s social/emotional needs during this uncertain time. We received many questions about how to help children with the anxiety they may be experiencing. Here are some quick tips:
Create daily structure. Children thrive on boundaries and structure in their day. They may become more worried when they have too much free time on their hands.
Avoid giving too much reassurance. Experts say it is best not to give constant reassurance as children may be become dependent on this and even more anxious during times when you can’t give it. Instead, empower your child by sharing age-appropriate facts about COVID-19 and reminding them what they can control such as hand-washing and social distancing.
Model calming strategies. This may be a tough one at times, but children are paying attention to how adults are handling the added stress and anxiety. When you model healthy ways to cope (exercise, deep breathing, connecting with friends, self-care), they will learn from your example.
Look for the positive. It is important to look for the silver linings during these difficult times. Share with your child any acts of kindness you see or positive aspects of being home together. This will help them look feel a sense of hope and optimism.

Science Fair Submissions and Deadlines
Hello Meadows Students and Families!
We hope you are all doing well at this time. The PTSA Meadows Science Fair will still be happening for our up and coming Meadows' scientists with a different culmination as in the years past. The format for submitting your projects will be digital (document, slides, etc.). Please note that we have extended the science fair project submission deadline from Thursday, April 23rd, 2020 to Friday, May 8, 2020. Please refer to the attached Science Fair Guidelines when completing your projects. Due to Covid-19 guidelines, we will only be taking digital submissions. If you completed your project on the poster, you can use a cell phone to upload image(s) or record a video of your project or invention. You can upload all images to a Google Slide Show presentation and submit to the Science Fair Google Classroom.
From Mrs. Yap who oversees the Science Fair. "We test drove the input with her son. You can download and then place it into the folders. As for using google slides, you can insert pictures from the google drive but could not insert videos into the slide show. As a test, her son submitted three files and they all work!
1) Google Slide for Science Fair Project
2) A Short test video (15 sec)
3) A reading video (over a minute long) Note: Needed to use the cloud or outside drive for this big file."
Use the link below for your online digital submission for your file(s). If you need help with submissions, please reach out and email us. jfine@newhallsd.com We can help.
