Lots of Good Stuff Happening!
Lions in Lyons
Today marked the 7th Lions in Lyons (LNL) Day for elementary students. LNL is an annual district wide community service event. During the course of a year, PK-12 students and staff volunteer approximately 3000 community service hours in a wide variety of activities aimed at making life better in Lyons! The middle school and high school conducted their LNL in the Fall. Elementary students and staff spent the day beautifying school grounds, city parks, and serving lemonade and cookies and selling potted plants for donations that go towards field trips and other school activities.
MS Track is Never Boring
The Lyons Middle School track team has seen many outstanding performances already in this early stage of their competition season. These performances are significant achievements because of the athletes' hard work and because of the guidance of their coaches. The meets can only take place when about 50-60 adults volunteer to assist with running the meets, and Lyons is known for putting on great track meets, so thanks to all those who assist! Congratulations to coaches and athletes for your early successes!
Friday Morning Late Starts
Students and parents often wonder what takes place at school on Fridays when school starts an hour later than normal. The hour each week is called PLC (Professional Learning Communities) and is used for teachers to review student data and develop plans to address learning needs, collaborate with grade level and subject area teachers and across grade levels and buildings, and address other best practices in education.
LHS Greenhouse Nearing Completion
The Lyons High School agriculture program and FFA greenhouse is nearing completion. This week, Temp-Aire installed the electrical. Water hookups will be done in the next few days. Gas hookups will be done later. Everything will be operational in time for a spring/summer 2023 opening.
Lyons High School Stage Gets New Lighting
T&M Stage Supplies from Wichita is in the process of installing the first round of new lighting for the 54-year-old lighting on the LHS stage. Some of the existing lights were even transferred over to the current stage from the old high school when the move was made in 1969. After the new lights go up, there are long term plans to replace the 50-year-old curtains and more lighting. This summer, the stage will be stripped, filled, sanded, and painted matte black, which is the industry-recommended standard.
Lyons Middle School Earns Challenge Award
USD 405 Board of Education President George Stover recognized the Lyons Middle School students and staff for a job well done on the 2022 state assessments with a Challenge Award. The Challenge Award is recognition for outstanding achievements and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas math and reading assessment results and other qualifying factors.
