From the Desk of Pastor Linda
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
This time of year brings a sense of melancholy for me. As the summer winds down and we begin to realize that autumn is upon us there is just a sense of change in the air. Children and youth are headed back to school. College age student may be headed back to class? The last plunge into the swimming pool is often done by Labor Day weekend and one may try and fit in a few last spins around the lake in the boat or quick trip up north. For all of us the movement of summer into fall most likely brings some sort of transition, change and new opportunity!
Our scripture on Sunday at the annual, Marshbank outdoor worship and picnic, is from the book of Esther. Esther was part of the Jewish people who had been driven out of Israel, their home, about 70 years before our story takes place and were exiled in Persia. They did their best to live in this strange land but still longed for a time they would return home. I don’t want to give the plot away but Esther does become queen and is faced with several difficult decisions. Her uncle, good ole Uncle Mordecai, reminds her of God’s spirit stirring over the people of Israel and perhaps, just maybe, Uncle Mordecai says, “Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
Perhaps you are melancholy like me at this time of year wondering what the next season will bring and the changes ahead? Perhaps you are simply excited about the new school year or a new college ! You may be filled with anxiety or grief from the loss of a loved one or even a life change, such as a new home or job. Wherever we find ourselves and whatever we may be feeling, what if we had an Uncle Mordecai who said, “Who knows if perhaps you are in this time and moment for just such a time as this?” In other words, what if your time and place, emotion and feeling was exactly the how, what, when or where God was going to work through?
Let’s talk more on Sunday at the park!
Peace,
Pastor Linda
