Week at a Glance
July 4th, 2014 Summer Edition
Edgewood Construction Projects are Underway!
If you haven't been in the neighborhood lately, I snapped a few shots of the work going on outside and inside our school.
The building is still accessible and the best way to get in, without getting too muddy, is to follow these steps:
Park across the street in the apartment lot.
Enter the property by the crosswalk sidewalk.
Walk up the hill (sidewalk is intact).
Enter Edgewood through the Primary doors.
Also, the Computer Lab is completely dismantled. This room will become Sara's gifted classroom space, and it has been interesting to see the early transformations of this room.
A transformation...
the Courtyard...
and no Blacktop. (We'll have to come up with another description of this play area!)

No computers and all one level in this space now!

Staying in Touch
Haven't posted much to the Edgewood School Twitter page so far, or used #edgewoodsummer, but there is still time! I am also planning to share some summer ideas and information with parents via a Smore to families next week, on July 8th.
Darlene and I will be catching up on a few things at the school on the 8th, and checking in to see how our registration numbers are looking. I will be at the building next week July 8, 9, 10th, before heading to San Diego. Brett and I are flying out for a mini-vacation, and I am really looking forward to attending the Visible Learning conference, with John Hattie, during this time as well. I promise to share ideas learned at this conference, and affirm the positive effects we are having for our students during the in-service days in August.
Don't forget to send Laura Kelly any pictures of you enjoying a book during your summer days, and while you might be vacationing in exotic places! :) I missed the chance to take a shot while reading Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, last weekend while I was visiting a good friend at her cabin in Minnesota. (But got a good shot with her with the world's biggest Muskie!) If you haven't read Unbroken yet, I totally recommend it...and sadly, Louis Zamperini (the book is about this awesome man) just passed away yesterday.
Looking Ahead:
August 6 and 7- Student centralized registration at JJHS- We will have a good idea about the number of new students coming to Edgewood after these days.
August 21- Class lists will be posted, at 2:00 P.M.
August 25- First In-service day for 2014-2015 school year. Staff will be at the school until 1:15 P.M. Not sure if we will have the Back to School Event this year, and I will keep you posted about this.
6:00 P.M., in the Gym- Kindergarten Curriculum Night
August 26- In-service day at JJHS, will lunch provided for all staff.
August 27- First day for students!
September 9th- Edgewood Curriculum Night
A couple of good links to keep the teaching and learning juices flowing...
If you are up to reading a little bit on the education PD front this summer I can definitely recommend these sites:
We Are Teachers
Edutopia
MindShift
Education World
I must admit...I have also enjoyed getting back to looking at Pinterest ideas, too. :) (And, not just for school ideas!)
Please take care, everyone, and hoping that the first few weeks of your summer vacation have been restful and fulfilling!!
With care, and a Happy 4th to all!
Tanya
