Colt Round Up
October 14, 2018
"A problem is a chance for you to do your best." - Duke Ellington
With Appreciation:
- Kudos to our 5th grade team for welcoming in an outside visitor from AVID/SCOE to observe your classrooms last week!
- Our team rocks - way to work together to get through and learn from our Lockout Drill!
- It can't be said enough - our front office team is amazing - we got 100% of our emergency cards in!
Quick Updates...
- We are getting a lot of children coming up to the office at the start of lunch with no specific symptoms - can we try to say "let's see how you feel" instead of "you can go up to the office at lunch"?
- To be clear, only staff with an art docent will get doors made for the Halloween decorating contest.
- We are looking for a site wellness coordinator - Holly did a great job with it last year, so feel free to check in with her if you are interested! I understand there are some occasional meetings, and opportunities to get our staff excited about wellness through contests throughout the year! This opportunity is open to classified and certificated staff, part time or full time!
PBIS Update
We are working on setting up Check In Check Out systems for a group of students. The students we selected have higher numbers of referrals that are related to obtaining attention. We'll get it started in the next couple of weeks!
Celebrating our ZERO REFERRAL KIDDOS -
- 5th grade is planning a whole grade root beer float social for November.
- 2nd and 3rd grades are planning an enrichment block in teacher's classrooms - I heard about origami, art, and rubix cubes - fun!
- What is everyone else planning? Keep Jen/Kristen posted so we can work with the 1+ kiddos
Below is a comparison Sept 2018 vs. 1st half of Sept 2018 vs. 1st half of Oct 2018.
Food for Thought - considering math facts
- Click Here - Article that considers if there are alternatives to timed math tests that help students master their math facts
- Click Here - Math Facts games for primary grades
- Click Here - Games to support multiplication facts mastery
- A quick google search for videos brought up many options for addition, multiplication, and more to fun tunes
Halloween Door Decorating
- all doors will be judged on 10/24 at 9:30 am; there will be one winner per grade level
- This project is one that your art docents have been asked to take the lead on. So, your art docent will work with your class to coordinate your door (unless you prefer to do it on your own with your students).
- Our goal is to have a "red ribbon week" theme - please chat with your docent about how to do that appropriately. For TK-2, our focus is on healthy choices; and grades 3-5 will be focused on being drug free (but no specific drug references) - here are some ideas for inspiration!
- Click here for a flier with more details about the decorating contest.
- Contact Krystal at kricci1084@gmail.com or talk with your Art Docent with any questions
- we are asking staff to move the door decorations to the MPR between 10/4 and 10/26 to be used for Carnival decorations - stay tuned for details
