PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
October 26, 2023
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
First quarter is in the books and students are starting the second quarter STRONG! Hats off to our fabulous students, teachers and staff for all of the hard work and effort they put into this past quarter. Students were rewarded with a “spooky” movie and a Topper Ticket awards assembly at the beginning of the week. One of our new school pets, an axolotl salamander, made his debut at the assembly. He is one of a pair of axolotls made possible by the generosity of third grade teacher, Donna Picone. Stay tuned for more details on an all school naming contest for the pair of axolotls. The students have already been “AXOLOTL” questions about them! We can’t wait to see what they will be named!
Please check your child’s bookbag today for his or her report card. Remember, the first and second grade report cards will look different this year in that we have moved to standards based grading. Standards based grading measures the mastery of the learning objectives, or how well students understand the material in class. It is based on a specific set of standards that students need to meet for each grade/content level. Marks are not a comparison of one student to another, but rather a way to measure how well students are doing on grade level/course level standards. A standards based approach allows parents and students to understand more clearly what is expected of students and how to help them be successful in their educational program. There is an explanatory paper included with your child’s report card so please refer to that for additional information. If you still have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or me.
I enjoyed seeing many of you at conferences on Tuesday and look forward to the opportunity to check in with you at our next conferences on November 7th. Pop into the office to say Hi! Thank you for your continued support at home and for being our partner in your child’s educational journey.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Park Students are happy to make cards thanking our Veterans & their Caregivers.
Looking for Veterans to honor at our assembly!
Park School will be having a short assembly honoring our veterans on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 9:45am. We would like to invite parents/relatives of our students who have served in the Armed Forces to attend this program. We would ask veterans to wear their uniforms, if possible. We would like to give each veteran an opportunity to share (1-5 minutes) with our audience their years of service, area of service in the Armed Forces, and what being a veteran means to them.
*Note: We are also asking that our Boy and Girl Scouts wear their uniforms for this day.*
