Obsidian Middle School Updates ~ Friday, November 13th

Dear Wolf Pack Families and Students,
Today is a great day to celebrate the hard work we're seeing from our students across the Wolf Pack. With the last day of the trimester, December 3rd, only a few weeks away, many students are turning in assignments and completing retakes of quizzes and tests. Great job! Keep communicating with your teachers, asking questions, attending Live Meets and working hard during this final stretch of T1.
Several fun virtual opportunities are popping up at Obsidian, too! Crazy Kahoots for 6th Graders each Monday at lunch with Counselors Mr. Diez and Ms. Nelson; Lunch with Mrs. Bernardi on Tuesdays at 11AM; Sports Trivia every Wednesday morning from 8-8:30AM with Assistant Principal Mr. Grant; Friday Morning 8-8:15AM Yoga with Mrs. Nigg and Ms. West; Art Club every Monday - Wednesday - Friday with Mrs. Moore (Google Meet Code jennifermoore0-oms ). Call OMS at (541) 923-4900 for other Google Meet Codes, or email tamara.boegelsack@redmondschools.org
This week we wrapped up our final visit of the 6th grade Wolf Dens. It was great meeting over 200 of our newest Wolves, who for the first time toured the building, got some Obsidian spirit wear, met their teachers, interacted with their classmates, and completed a reading assessment.
Starting Monday, we are opening up our school for IN-PERSON HOMEWORK HELP from 7:30AM - 8:30AM for a limited number of students. You can sign up here: https://calendly.com/obsidian-ms/oms-before-school-student-support Transportation must be provided by families, and students are expected to be home and attending Wolf Den at 9AM. Space is limited - please only sign up for days in which you can 100% commit to attending so the most students possible can attend. Bring your Chromebooks! Instructional Assistants will be available to help with homework.
Go Wolves!
Celebrating More Star Students This Week!

Here are some important updates for your family:
Viewing Grades: Believe it or not, we are 3 school weeks away from the end of the Trimester! The last day of the Trimester is Thursday, December 3rd. It's important for you and your student to know current grades. Now is also the time to turn in past assignments and focus on doing your very best in classes.
In order to view your student's grades, please create a Canvas Observer account by following these directions. Unfortunately our two student information systems, Canvas and ParentVUE, are not syncing accurately. This is not just an issue for Redmond Schools, but at the corporate level of these two providers. We understand that this is an inconvenience. You'll find the most accurate grades for your students on Canvas. ParentVUE will continue to be the site where you can see attendance information.
Drop-In Help Lab: Did you know that we have a Google Meet open from 8-3 everyday? All students are welcome to come to Google Meet with the code omsstudent for any school help. This is a great way to ask questions, get homework or Canvas help, or connect with an Obsidian staff member. Students must be logged into their school Chrome account to access.

Parks and Rec Cool Opportunity: STEAM Project Kits (All Ages) FREE
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Thanks to a grant from the Roundhouse Foundation in Sisters, we have been able to provide free project kits for kids to do at home. We pick a STEM challenge or an art project, or sometimes a project that combines “STEAM” skills and we include all of the supplies needed in a paper bag you can pick up from us at your car in the Cascade Swim Center parking lot. We have done rock painting, popsicle stick catapults, clothespin airplanes, build a car out of miscellaneous auto parts, toilet paper roll owls, 3D paper architecture and many more. Check our Facebook page to see if we are doing a kit that week and what the project is and then stop by the Cascade Swim Center, roll down your window or pop your trunk for “touchless” pickup. We will be wearing masks for your safety.
Pickup times: Wednesday, 5:30-6:30pm
Please contact RAPRD for more information (541) 548-7275
