A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
April 27, 2020
Dear Galena Park I.S.D. Staff,
Please allow me to begin by offering my congratulations to Dr. John Moore, who has been named by the Board of Trustees as the lone finalist for the superintendent position from which I am retiring this summer. I have known Dr. Moore for twenty-five years, and am confident to leave the District under his very capable leadership. After a state-mandated waiting period of 21 days, the Board will meet again to vote on the selection of Dr. Moore for the position, making their selection official.
While this is certainly not the way any of us envisioned the 2019-2020 school year ending, I am thankful to each and every one of you for the work you have put in to keep Galena Park I.S.D. going strong through the COVID-19 school closure. Our students and their families need us more than ever, and I am proud to say our support--through distance learning as well as the Curbside Meal program--has not wavered. We will continue to provide this support for the foreseeable future--as long as our schools are closed by our local, state, and/or national officials.
I ask you to continue to spread kindness, grace, and positive messages at every opportunity, and if you are in need of emotional support, to reach out for it. Continue to adhere to the Stay Home, Work Safe order so we can all be together again sooner, rather than later, and please practice all recommended safety protocols, including wearing masks, when leaving your homes.
Be Blessed,
Angi Williams, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Self-Care Tips
Stick to a schedule. The abrupt, total loss of rhythm in our days left many of us feeling adrift. Consider a schedule for weekdays and one for weekends – hour by hour each day. Alternate high-intensity activities with rests or diversions.
Shorten the duration of tasks. We have less energy in general, and the focus we used to have for self-discipline is now directed at survival—sanitizing and safe living. So let yourself do things in smaller doses when that’s helpful.
Express gratitude, which creates a healthy mind and boosts immune response. Consider journaling about gratitude every evening. Try to focus your first morning thoughts on one thing you’re grateful for.
BULLETIN BOARD
PLEASE COMPLETE COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT SURVEY
Please help non-profit, philanthropic, and educational organizations better understand the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 on our community, by completing a Community Needs Assessment Survey. The Kinder Institute’s Houston Education Research Consortium at Rice University is conducting the analysis of the survey. We encourage you to complete the survey.
