SHS Weekly Update

August 28, 2021

Principal's Update

Now that we are back in school the issue of when and why we are contact tracing seems to be causing some confusion about the when and why we have to quarantine students. I have attached Dr. Ryba's protocols below, please read through the slides especially slides 23 and 24 which outline the protocols for each scenario for vaccinated, unvaccinated, and unvaccinated students who wear masks. The scenarios are different in different scenarios. A summary of each is as follows:

Direct contact for more than 15 minutes within 6 feet for unvaccinated students will result in a 10 day quarantine. If an unvaccinated student is wearing a mask that changes from 6 feet to less than 3 feet.

Vaccinated students who are asymptomatic do not have to quarantine.

Here is a video I made that explains our protocols as well:

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. JEN ORLOSKY, SECRETARY TO THE PRINCIPAL AT SHS

Mrs. Jen Orlosky has worked in our District for 10 years at all grade levels. She has worked as a custodian, in our cafeterias, and is now the Secretary to the Principal at Strongsville High School. In addition, ‘Mrs. O’ stays involved with our high school students as the Senior Class Advisor, Varsity Football Cheerleading Advisor, and the Spirit Squad Co-Advisor. Having moved to Strongsville in 2011, with both of her children attending Strongsville City Schools, Mrs. O has an appreciation for our District and unique perspective as an employee, as well as a parent.

“One of the most important things we can do as SHS staff members is to show the students that we care about them. I appreciate the many opportunities to get to know our students better and having the chance to watch them grow throughout their years at SHS. It can be anything from hearing "Mrs. O, did you see that play I made in yesterday’s game?", to providing advice for a student, to eventually watching them walk across the stage at Commencement. As much as we want to make an impact on the lives of students, sometimes they can impact our lives even more,” said Mrs. Orlosky.

“My job is the absolute best because I am able to interact with both students and my co-workers. While our days are very busy, we try to make it as much fun as possible. If you come into the main office at any given time, you will see our smiles, hear our laughter, and see us working together for the families and students at SHS.”

Thank you Mrs. Orlosky for your positive attitude, your willingness to help our students, and for being part of a great team at Strongsville High School! #WeAreStrongsville

ACT Prep Class

Change your life! Gain admission to the college of your dreams

& obtain more scholarship money. Learn how to score higher on the ACT!

Premium, Cost-Effective ACT Preparation

Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.

Strongsville High School

Almost every Ohio high school student now takes the ACT. Securing a good score can assure graduation, qualify students for CCP opportunities, &, perhaps most importantly, help students gain admission to college & obtain essential financial aid.

Our six-hour preparation seminar helps demystify the ACT by explaining

--the test’s structure,

--the academic content covered on it, &

--testing & time management strategies students can employ to maximize their performance.

Students learn specific, tangible strategies to answer more questions correctly, how to decipher questions designed to thwart their performance, & specific academic content that is regularly tested on the ACT.

Each participant gets:

--six hours of live, engaging, interactive instruction,

--a comprehensive, 400-page, reference workbook,

--a guided outline of ACT test-taking strategies,

--a recommended five-week study guide,

--online access to over 1000 additional practice test questions, &

--free, live, phone-in pre-test tutoring.

Next Level Prep is Ohio’s leader in ACT preparation. We currently work with over 100 Ohio high schools & thousands of students (urban, suburban, & small town/rural) each year around the state. Our typical students see a 2.0 composite point increase on the ACT after taking our seminar.

“Everything was wonderful!!”. --MG, Strongsville HS

“Thank you so much. I look forward to taking the ACT again after this session.”

--CJ, New Albany HS

Engaging instructors who score consistently at high levels in student evaluations

Our presenters are world class, using state-of-the-art teaching techniques,

a mixture of hands-on instruction, discussion, student discovery, & lecture.

We are student-centered & work with students to overcome learning barriers.

Our presenters consistently obtain 94%-plus A ratings from students.

Students emerge justifiably confident—with decidedly less anxiety—about their prospects on the test.
