Message from Mrs. Richardson
Dear York Avenue Families,
YA's first week of One School, One Book has been great fun! The students are enjoying Dragons in a Bag and shouting out trivia question responses each morning. It isn't too late to begin the book! Every student received a copy of the book, along with a pacing calendar to keep at home and raffle tickets to return on Fridays with their name and teacher written on the back. Please click here for the parent letter and calendar.
On March 28th, there is an early dismissal at 12:35 pm for conferences. Your child's teacher will reach out to you if they need to set up a conference.

YA Parents in Equity
The Parents in Equity (PIE) Group is working hard to bring resources into each school building throughout the year that celebrate the diversity of our school communities, often centered around district-wide themes, such as March’s Women’s History Month.
If you have a resource you would love to share, an idea for a display, or input on how our school community can continue to honor the diverse backgrounds of our students, please reach out to Jenn Svetlik (jennifer.svetlik@gmail.com) and Megan Briggs (mbriggsis@gmail.com), who serve as our school’s PIE Representatives.
We are always looking for fresh voices and perspectives from parents who are interested in getting more involved with bringing our district’s vision of cultural proficiency to life within each building.
In April and May we are going to be putting up StoryWalks on the fence outside of the school, and could use a few extra hands.
Please email Jenn at jennifer.svetlik@gmail.com about how you can help!
NP Harlem Wizards Game
The Harlem Wizards are back! Come check out their tricks, hoops and alley-oops on Saturday, April 9th at 2pm at North Penn High School, as the Wizards take on a team of North Penn teachers! Tickets are available here:
https://harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets/
It's a great time for the whole family...we hope to see you there.
March Counselor's Corner
March has certainly been off to an exciting start! The students at York Avenue did a great job showing respect to one another this week as some students and staff chose not to wear their mask and others continued to do so. I was proud of the students for how they handled this change and was very happy to see some familiar smiles around the building!
The following is an article from NPR about how to talk to your kids if there are scary things on the news. The news is all around us and your child may have caught a glimpse of something scary and confusing. I have found this article helpful in guiding conversations with my own children who have asked some heavy questions lately and hope you may too. What to Say to Kids when the New is Scary
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support.

Home & School Meeting News
One topic discussed was safety. The safety of the community is the most important goal during drop-off and pick-up. We all have a responsibility to see that every child is safe. In addition, we need to keep traffic moving to facilitate student arrival and dismissal in a timely way. It is imperative that the procedures below are observed.
Another topic of discussion was the need for volunteers. YA Home & School Association has many ideas for spring events. Please consider taking the lead or joining a group to help these ideas come to fruition. We appreciate any availability you may have. To get involved, please send an email to yahomeandschool@gmail.com.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
All drop offs in the car line are in front of the main entrance between the orange cones. Please pull your car up to the large sign carried by our 6th grade safety.
Do not park your car or exit your car in the car line.
Keeping safety in mind, please do not go around vehicles in front of you and do not attempt to back up your vehicle.
As the space in front of you becomes available, the next set of vehicles will pull forward and drop off their child(ren).
When in the car line, please practice patience. Parents should not exit their vehicle in order to keep the car line moving. Staff members are available to assist the students with their backpacks or any other item they need to get out of the vehicle.
Dismissal
Pull up between the cones for pick up. Do not park and leave your car in the car line.
You can move forward to pull up between the cones as the cars in front of you leave.
If you park across the street or elsewhere, please exit your vehicle and wait for your child on school property.
Please cross the street at a corner to return back to your car. Do not run across the street.
Please be careful when pulling out of your parking spot and watch for other vehicles and our walkers.
